QOTD - Wednesday, June 18th
What put your town on the map? Do you have any festivals/celebrations in your town (either your current one or your hometown)?

Re: QOTD - Wednesday, June 18th
Chippewa Falls is home to Leinenkugel's Brewery (MMM Berryweiss is my favorite beer),
We also had the first supercomputer - Cray Supercomputer/Cray Research
And we have the purest water in the world (currently being bottled as Premium Waters). So we have Pure Waters Day as the big celebration in our town, parade, the whole works.
We also have the largest river tubing event in the US that happens each Father's Day, called the FATFAR (French Annual Tubing Festival And Regatta)
We also have the fairgrounds for the Northern Wisconsin State Fair.

Re: QOTD - Wednesday, June 18th
The actual town I live in isn't much. It has a population of about 5000 people and as far as I know it's not known for anything.
Now Nashville is just down the road about 30 minutes and it's known for all sorts of things....
Country music, of course...There's the Grand Ole Opry, Opryland Hotel, Country Music Hall of Fame.
It's the capital of the state.
There is a full scale replica of the Parthenon in Greece with the largest indoor statue in the Western Hemisphere. It's HUGE! It's pretty cool. It's in a park near the hospital where my kids were born. When I was in early labor with DS#2 my dr told us to go walk around that park to get labor going. It holds special memories because of that.
I'm sure there is more, just can't think of anything right now.

Well, my hometown, which is south of San Antonio (small town) I mentioned this before, George Strait and his wife are from there. His parents still live there as well.
Austin-Capital of Texas & Music Capital of the World. Lots of concerts/shows at places downtown, SXSW (big music festival in March).

Re: QOTD - Wednesday, June 18th
I'll use STL since it's the main one (our little "town" / area has a summer festival thing but nothing special) We do live close to the augusta wine region though.......................
There's Anheuser Busch (haha big news story lately), the arch, Forest Park had the 1904 world's fair, the zoo is one of the few free admission ones left.....
:p there's a walk of fame for famous people from the area.
Haha - a few things "not well known" beyond STL apparently are toasted ravioli and porksteaks good stuff though..............

Raleigh....hmmmm...I'm not sure other than every year it is voted in the top 5 places to live for singles! (not sure why since it seems like everyone here is married)
Hometown: VA Beach, I'd say the beach itself and being a tourist attraction is on the top of the list.

Re: QOTD - Wednesday, June 18th
The only thing that has put the area on the map is the beaches (Caladesi is #1 beach in country) and the Hogans with their big fiasco. Other than that its really boring down here. Well Orlando is an hour away and some people find that exciting
