Default QOTD - Thursday

What kind of car do you drive and have you been forced to make any changes to your driving habits due to the rising gas prices (i.e. convert vehicle to take alternative fuel, buy hybrid, join a carpool, etc)?

2001 silver honda civic (my baby) I'll be sad when we either trade it in or when / if it ever goes out but so far is in great shape...................

He has an 02 civic and we work together so really not too affected by the gas prices - we easily get 30+ mpg w/ mine (DH gets 35+ mpg on his)

I have a 2005 Maxima and DH has a 2007 Explorer. We're trying to drive my car more often since it gets better gas mileage.

I'm JEALOUS!! I get about 15.8 mpg in my car!!

I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia (black)...I LOVE it!! It costs me anywhere from $175-$200 a week though just for gas!! I live 27 miles from my work one way so that means I have to fill up twice a week (at least) at about $90 a fill-up!!

That is our only vehicle right now so at least we don't have to buy gas for two cars. If it gets much worse then I guess I'll be forced to get something a little more economical.

Don't you love long commutes............... We used to have an hour drive to work just one way (now is just 35 minutes) so while DH would love a newer vehicle why give up either one if they're perfectly fine and get great gas mileage

I have a 2007 GMC Yukon. It was my christmas present from DH on our first Christmas as a married couple in 2006

It has this thing where it shuts down to a 4 cylinder on the highway so it's not as bad as you might think that big of an SUV would be. I think I average about 18 mpg.

DH has a 2007 Dodge Ram and it's a diesel, which is currently $4.85 a gallon here!

Fortunately for us DH has a car provided to him by his job and a gas card so he goes to work and back for free. And I work at home now so I use very little gas too.

Ugh, this topic is hot in our house right now. I got my DREAM car - Volvo XC90 (the SUV) I LOVE IT!! But I travel 2200+ miles a month for work, and it only gets 20mpg on a good day. So the gas costs have been killing us.

I just had to get rid of it - and get a Toyota Prius. Ugh! I'm so sad - but I know it's the right decision. It's just a car, but it was supposed to be our "family vehicle" and I had to get rid of it just as the family is starting.

Stupid gas prices!

that's awful. You did do the right thing but it stinks that families have to make these kinds of decisions. There was an article on CNN yesterday about how in the past middle class families had to sacrifice for college education funds and now they are sacrificing just to pay for gas and buy eggs.
