Our SA results
I just got the faxed copy of our results and they are based on the WHO report. I was told that the results were "normal" but I need your knowledge to help me figure this out.
Volume was 2.9
Count was 39.0 (I'm guessing in millions)
Motility was 52
The PH was high at 8.5 it should be between 7.2 and 7.8 so what does that mean???
Viscosity Normal
Morphology 23
There is a second column that I think gives you the reference point, but I am having trouble understanding this all.
Tkeys, Mandy, anyone tell me what this all means?

Re: Our SA results
The morphology is the only part I think we are under at.
It says the morphology is 23 or >or=15% normal % normal.

Re: Our SA results
I think everything looks good... the ph is a little high, but I don't remember what that means... maybe an infection?!? Tkeys should be able to give more insight

Re: Our SA results
Here is what I found about the PH:
Normal semen pH is 7.2-8.0. Prostatic secretion is acidic while seminal vesicle fluid is alkaline (seminal fructose is derived from seminal vesicles). Acidic ejaculate (pH<7.2) may be associated with blockage of seminal vesicles. Infection is usually associated with alkaline ejaculate (pH >8.0_ Azoospermia with low ejaculate volume, fructose negative and acidic may imply obstruction of the ejaculatory ducts. pH over 8.0 may indicate infection. The semen is initially in liquefied state but quickly coagulate by the action of protein kinase secreted by the seminal vesicles. Proteolytic enzymes from the prostate liquefy coagulum in 20-25 minutes. Abnormal liquefaction may be cased by prostatic abnormalities, e.g. prostatitis. Increased viscosity may affect sperm motility

Re: Our SA results
Overall, I think it looks good! The morphology is slightly low on the WHO scale, but usually you can be a little below the # for morphology and it doesn't make a difference. That can also change from sample to sample, and I think it sounds like it is high enough that it shouldn't be much of an issue. There is a lot of debate about whether and to what extent morphology really matters. Some REs say it doesn't, others say if there are head defects, that can be a problem with fertilization. They generally don't worry too much about morphology until it is under 5% on the Kruger strict scale.
His count is totally normal (middle to lower end of normal, but definitely way over the "minimum" of 20 million/ml) and the motility is good - over 50%. His volume is high (a good thing - means more swimmers). Did they mark the forward progression? Swimmers can be moving, but they can fail to move well (fast & forward), so the forward progression tells you whether the ones that are moving are moving how they are supposed to move. I'd assume that number is probably fine, too, since everything else is in line.
You can slightly raise motility/morphology with some vitamins - nothing too significant. A basic men's multivitamin (like One-a-Day Men's Health) can't hurt, Vitamin C (1000 mg), Vitamin E (400 IU) and pycnogenol (60-100 mg) seem to be the best for morphology/motility.
I guess I'm saying it looks good! You can take steps if you want to try and bump up those borderline scores . . . can't hurt any, might help!

Re: Our SA results
Sorry - I was at the doctor today!
I don't think the PH is a problem . . . did they check for white blood cells (WBC) or round cells in the sample? That would indicate whether there is an infection. I think the fact his viscosity is normal is a good sign, and frankly, it could have been caused by something he ate.
