More determined now than ever!!!
I have started and quit this diet 4 times this year already. But this time I have dug up all the determination I have and I will not fail again.
I do have a major problem that has stood in my way. The *only* diet that works for me is low carb. My body just can't handle carbs and I gain weight instantly when I eat them. I lost almost 60 lbs 3 years ago doing low carb. But, I gained some of it back.
The problem... I hate meat! I have essentially stopped eating it all together. Which makes low carb very difficult. Well I got this new book that teaches you how to do a low carb, vegetarian diet! I am a picky eater so I've had to modify almost all the recipes but I am determined to make this work this time!
I know I can do it, I've done it before. I just have to stay determined.
I started Friday and I've already lost 2 lbs. The first time I did the diet I lost 8 lbs the first week. And almost 60 lbs in under a year.
This isn't going to be easy so please for me!
Here goes!!!

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
By the way I just had the BEST breakfast ever!!!!!!!!
Fresh strawberries, one little spoonful of sugar free whipped cream, and homeade low carb granola!
SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD
I didn't have a recipe for the granola, you can really just put what you like.
I did:
Almonds
Pecans
Coconut (from the produce dept, not the sweetened stuf in a bag)
Oats uncooked (just a couple TBSPs though)
Splenda
Cinnamon
I ground it all up in a food processor and added a little veg oil to make it all stick together. Then I spread it out thinly on a cookie sheet and baked it at 250 degrees for probably an hour.
SO good.
This breakfast has about 6 net carbs. Seems like a lot maybe when you are only allowed 20 carbs in the firstpart of this diet but it's a great way to start the day. It's tasty and filling.

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
Are you doing purely low-carb diet or are you doing a good-carb diet?
I need to get back on my diet now that I have more time before infertility. They won't take you if you are overweight and while I'm not overweight I am hovering at the outer fringes of normal weight for me. You'd think since I live 1 mile from the gym I'd be there all the time but I just haven't had the time. I need to get back to that. Luckily I've only gained 1 lb back from the weight I lost a few months ago. I just need to stay motivated. So I need to get back trying to loose my 30lbs.

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
I am doing strictly low carb.
For the 1st 14 days I am limited to 20 net carbs per day.
Personally... I can eat as much fat as I want or as many calories as I want and still lose weight. When I did this last time I only counted carbs, nothing else.

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
Mandy this is excellent! I am so glad you are back to doing what your body wants! I am a little more determined to get skinny because of summer rolling back around so I have been concentrating on what I eat a little better the past couple weeks. Glad you are all excited about it too! Just keep that positive energy going!

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
Mandy - I'm the same way. I did really well on South Beach when I lost weight in 2006, but I'm vegetarian and a picky eater and I like carbs, so it is really tough. I'm very much wishing I'd lost the 30 lbs I wanted to lose before getting pregnant (not that I'd trade being pregnant) - I've just got such anxiety about putting on too much weight during this pregnancy and NEVER being able to take it all off. So, I think it is a great thing to focus on the weight loss right now, and I'm sure you can do it!

I also felt a million times better on the low carb diet, reading this book, I see why.

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
Way to go Mandy. I was thinking the same thing this weekend. It is time for me to be determined and get it done this time. No cheating!!! I am not doing the low carb. That makes me so sick that I end up throwing up so I have to just eat better and exercise more. Let's keep each other motivated and let's look better in a few months!!!

Good Luck Mandy. I don't know how you can do it. I'm a carb-o-holic! It goes well with my POAS-o-holic tendencies!
GO get em!

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
Good luck Mandy! You sound very motivated - that's great!! I have been doing WW since Dec. and have lost almost 20 lbs, but I have stalled out a bit. I'd like to lose another 5-10, and I'm trying to step up the exercise now. We'll all have to support each another!!

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
I am still going strong on low carb/no sugar. We ate 20 a day at first and now eat about 25, no more though! The key is writing it down and if it is 1/3 cup of nuts, then measure it out.
I weigh tomorrow but I have lost 28 something! Ty is at his goal, he didn't have that much to lose!
Keep up the good work. I am going to try the granola. I love crunchy!

OH...and what about rice. I love rice dishes too. Especially casseroles.
Molli, that is awesome! Good for you on losing all that weight! =)

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
Okay, it must be a woman thing! My friend and I were just discussing the fact we LOVE carbs! I can eat tons of baked potatoes, french fries, rice, breads, etc. I love chocolate too, but I LOVE my starches even more! The South Beach diet worked wonders for me. Doing that and working out helped me to lose 120lbs. Oh that and drinking TONS of water.
TKeys - I worried about gaining weight during this pregnancy and was up at my first OB appointment, but by my second one, I had lost eight pounds in four weeks... with no morning sickness! Trust me, your body does some crazy stuff while pregnant and it may surprise you how well it will handle pregnancy.

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
Krissy - thanks for that. I'm trying to relax about it. I got nervous today because the scale had jumped like 5 lbs this weekend (up since Friday), but I was out of town and had like 6 of the big giant deli sour pickles yesterday, so I'm guessing it was mostly water weight. I've been guzzling water today and staying away from the salt, and I can already tell it has made a difference.
Look at you -- 16 weeks pregnant!! When do you find out the sex? Or will you be team green?
Sorry, Mandy, didn't mean to hijack your thread!!

Re: More determined now than ever!!!
We'll definitely going to be finding out... we can't agree on boys' names and will need all the time we can get to work on it In about 1 1/2 weeks is our next OB appointment and after that they will schedule us at an ultrasound clinic for 3d/4d ultrasounds complete with a DVD package. It's getting exciting!
