Default m/c question

And since it can be a sensitive subject i hope this is ok to ask....................

(curious since we have a friend who has m/c twice w/in the past 8 months) - is there a certain week / sign that the chance drops a lot or ? - seems like maybe the first trimester is pretty uncertain as a whole?

My doctor once said that there's about a 20-30% chance of m/c before 6 weeks, then at 6 weeks it drops to about 10%, then at 12 weeks it becomes less than a 5% chance.

I have no personal experience that's just what the doctor told us.

Okay, if my statistics are right, it is something like 25% of pregnancies will end in m/c (that includes the "chemical" pregnancies - only 25% of fertilized eggs even make it to implantation/clinical pregnancy), but after you hear the heartbeat, the chances drop to less than 10%, and after the first trimester, it drops to like 1-3% or something.

When I read the statistics, I'm sometimes amazed ANYONE gets pregnant!!

Almost 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, with the majority occurring during the first 12 weeks.
There is a 75% chance of miscarriage in weeks 1-2 of pregnancy, when you do not know you are pregnant.
There is a 10% chance of miscarriage in weeks 3-6 and this number drops to 5% during weeks 6-12.
During the second trimester the chance of miscarriage drops again to 3%. After you’ve reached 20 weeks gestation, it is no longer considered a miscarriage.
I just read this online.

I agree with T. it's amazing anyone gets and stays pregnant.

Here the docs say 12 weeks. One of the reasons is because of the statisticts Tkeys gave. The other reason is because at 12 weeks you can determine if you have a healthy fetus or not. Many tests are doen just before the 12th week and the results are within that week too.
That's why it's a gide line here, we only tell the workd that we're pg after the 12 weeks.

Yeah i plan on not really saying much until i'm pretty sure we're ok - but if i start showing that could be an issue - which is of course another ? when you start showing (but i know that differs for everyone so .................)

I miscarried the day I was 13 weeks, which is when I had heard that you were "safer." As for showing, I started showing at about 6 weeks - not that anyone besides me or dh could tell. I started wearing maternity pants at week 11.
