Had to share...for anyone that wants a vacation anyways (X-post)
I was speaking to my cousin thru IM the other day, she just moved to Australia a little over a year ago and when she was living in the states, her and her DH were doing fertility treatments.
She told me that they did about 5 or 6 IUIs, one stuck, but not for long. I asked her how things were going since she moved to Australia, and she told me that they hadn't tried again since the move.
She then told me she was actually in Cairo (Egypt) visiting my Aunt for 6 weeks, and while in Cairo she will be doing IVF. Her Mom's friend had done IVF with the RE last year and got pregnant with twin boys. She told me that the procedures and advancements in medicine are pretty much the same, so I asked why she flew to Cairo to do it instead of staying in Australia.
Here is the kicker.... the whole procedure of IVF including meds only costs THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS! I about fell out of my chair, she said it costs about 12K in Aust. just like here.
I figured out that it would be cheaper for me to fly to Cairo, stay with my Aunt for free for 6 weeks, have the IVF treatment for 3K and fly home...then to have the procedure done here.
Of course, I would never do that, because I can't just pick up and leave my job or DS for that long, but I just thought it was absolutely crazy.
So, turns out, her and I will most likely be having the procedure around the same time. Our families think its "so cool" that we may be preggers together, I don't know how cool that is since she will be on the other side of the world hehee.
Alright, have a good weekend everyone!
