Embryo Donation
I'd post on the adoption forum, but I don't know those ladies like I do here, so ya'll are getting it!
I've been looking into adoptions and have been getting scared with the whole birth moms wanting babies back. And if I am worried about it you are guarenteed that my DH is a hundred times more worried about it. That and it isn't anywhere cheap. I'd like to afford my kid once I get it!
So I looked into international adoption, but because I am an Early Childhood teacher I know all too well about attachment disorders popping up due to lack of quality care the first year of life. Once again, the dh is super worried about that. So the only country that has early adoption (as young as 4 months) is Kazakastan and that is WAY expensive.
And I like the idea of being pregnant! I just started looking into embryo adoption. That ends up being more on the pricey side due to home studies and other adoption related expenses. But I then found embryo donation, which is just two families getting together and giving each other embryos. This sounds much more affordable and I still get to be pregnant.
Also once the embryo is inside me, it is legally mine. Not that I wouldn't have an open situation with the donating family, it is just nice to know that your baby won't be taken from you.
Anyone else heard of this or had any experience with it?

How interesting Missy. I had not heard of it, but it sounds like it may work for you. Keep doing your research and let me know what you find out!

Re: Embryo Donation
Dh and I talked about embryo donation. We also talked about international adoption but that can cost anywhere between $20,000-$50,000 so we decided against it.
My RE suggested that we do IUI with donor sperm. I am not willing to do that (yet). I want to at least give having a baby that is biologically both of ours a chance.
I would probably want to do a donated embryo rather than donated sperm. I look at it like this... the baby wouldn't belong to either of us biologically so it's like adopting only you get to carry and deliver the baby.
We are hoping that we don't have to cross that bridge though.

Re: Embryo Donation
I've heard of it - in fact, there is a woman on the IVF board who is donating her embryos (she just had triplets). Go to the IVF board . . . there are quite a few women there who are donating/have donated/have received donated embryos. You might get some good info there!
If you have already frozen embryos, the cost is much lower . . . you just have to pay for the FET (which is a few thousand dollars). If you actually have to find a donor to go through IVF, that is much more money. Good luck - it is really an interesting idea.

Re: Embryo Donation
Ditto, go to the IVF board and ask about it. I think you can ask a local RE if they have a list or something that you can get on. I'm betting that there are rules against asking payment for the embryos, and since you wouldn't need stims I think it would be cheaper than a regular IVF cycle.
Good luck and let us know what you find out. That's one of the things on our list (although for way down the road...).
