Hiya I'm pretty new to all of this and will be ttc from next cycle (still have IUD)
I have two questions for anyone who can advise
1) When should I have IUD removed?
2) What cycle day do you think cut off should be next month to get a girl after 4 boys?

Thanks for any advice

Hi, and

I'm one of the hosts of this board, and we are thrilled to have you join us. If you have questions about IUD removal, Claire (Kooky2003) on the TTC/Preparing to TTC board had hers removed about 2 months ago. Her first cy was normal and she O'd. She has been off the IUD for at least 2-3 months, because she wasn't sure if her cy would resume right away.

I don't know much about the trying for a girl/boy, or how effective it is, so I can't help with that!

Do you chart on Fertility Friend? If you like to chart, FF is a fantastic online tool.

Thanks for joining us!

Welcome to the board!! I know I have read that girl sperm last longer and are slower, and boy sperm are faster and die quicker...but I'm not totally sure much more than that!! Good luck in going after that girl!!

I had an IUD and had it removed in January, 2006. I O'd 30 days after it was removed and got af shortly afterwards and then I had normal cycles (if you can call mine normal) after that. I too would recommend looking into Fertility Friend but I can't help you on the gender swaying. Sorry. Good luck to you!

and welcome to our board!

My name is Mandy, the other host of this board. I'm so glad you've joined us.

I don't know anything about IUD, I've never had one. But in the beginning of our TTC journey I did read a few articles on the "Shettles Method" of gender selection. It is based on the theory that "girl sperm" travel more slowly than "boy sperm" but live longer. Therefore if you want a girl it would suggest that you stop BD about 3 days before you O. That way by the time you O the boy sperm have "died" and the slower girl sperm, who are still alive, have finally made it to the egg.

To me, since you have 4 boys (doesn't seem like getting pregnant is an issue for you, is it?) it would be worth trying for a cycle or two.

I don't know how effective or even IF it's effective but it's worth researching.
