Icon4 bloodwork results, sorta

I called the nurse today to check on his bloodwork that he had done a week and a half ago. I was patient long enough. She said that the test they ran took 2 weeks to get back. She said it was a Chromosome Genetic Analysis. I am at the beach and tonight I have secluded myself to find research for what this is and what they can find. I have come up with Y Chromosome Microdeletion. Basically people with this don't have part of the Y chromosome and therefore are infertile. The chances of him having that were semihigh, so it could be. It did say that people could still conceive with this. I just don't know though. It said that people who were going to undergo ICSI had these tests done. I guess we are doing things a little backwards. I just want to find someone else with this. I don't know that he has this, but I think that the possibilities are strong.

Who knows, sometimes I wish that I didn't have the computer to research over. More research tomorrow!!!!

They could be checking for a few things - they have also discovered that Cystic Fibrosis carriers have a much higher rate of partial testicular failure. They may also be checking for Klinefelter's Disease (where they have an extra X chromosome, I believe) (but I think this would be rare for Ty since his other hormone bloodwork came back normal). These genetic issues can explain why the problem is presenting, but they don't give much of an answer about how to treat it.

I wish you could talk to someone about the whole IVF/ICSI process - they have enough information to be able to tell you whether or not the sperm they found are adequate for IVF/ICSI - from what you've said so far, it does sound like they should be. But I know NOT knowing is so difficult.

Your patience is amazing . . . I know what a trying time this is for you.

Molli - I know your road has been long and painful. I hope you have some answers very soon and can develop a game plan to conceive very soon. I don't have any advice for you, but I am thinking about both you and Ty.

Molli, are you supposed to be on vacation???? J/K, I'd be furiously researching too. I agree with TKeys, see if you can talk to someone re ICIS and if that is a possibility. I'm sorry I can't remember if you have done that already.

I'm so sorry you are in such a limbo with no clear path at the moment. But you are right in the quote you gave me the other day...it's so true...

Thanks ladies. I have been on the beach, but at night or early in the morning, I am on here. I have found that about CF and Klienfelters. The doctors don't think that it is Klienfelters because their are physical things with that too. I thought it was very interesting about CF. I know that we will get a referral for who to see about IVF with ICSI. I am glad that we have already done this test, maybe it and then we can move forward again.

Enjoy your vacation! The bottom line is that you don't really know if all that research nailed anything down for sure, so don't worry I hope they hurry up and get those results though. I still maintain that waiting is the hardest part about TTC.

The good news is, once you get through the early hurdles and get everything approved and a plan set, actually getting started with IVF goes FAST (as long as you are ready to start). It was 7 weeks from the time we made our decision to go for it until the , I think. It took us 3 months to decide to go for it, though.

If it turns out Ty is a CF carrier, you will probably want to get tested, too - if you are a carrier, too, there is a 1 in 4 chance of having a child with CF, but you are all-clear if you are not a carrier!

Have a great vacation.

Hope you are enjoying your vacation Molli!

Good Luck with the final results of the tests.

Are you guys both willing to do IVF? I think now is the time to decide because like T said, once you say "yes, we'll do it" it is a fast process so the more prepared you are when the final results are in the better!
