Blood Test Disaster
Ugh - I had a disaster for a blood test today. As you all know, I'm afraid of needles. Went to go get my bloodwork done, and drove over - realized I forgot my purse. Had to go home and get it . . . and then went back. Got there again and realized that the lab was now CLOSED. Had to find another lab. Waited 45 minutes. Explained that I'm not good with needles, that I needed someone who could just stick surely and once. Woman came to stick me . . . and she kept missing!! 6 times, moving it in and out and around. I panicked (as I'm not good with needles) and I smacked her. She was terrible. I've never been through anything like that. I have a huge bruise down my arm. And she never found a vein!!! And I have GREAT veins. It was like missing the grand canyon standing right in front of it. I then had to be stuck AGAIN by the other woman to have the test done. I was not a happy camper. I've never had someone so BAD at drawing blood before.

Re: Blood Test Disaster
I'm so sorry Tkeys. I have had that happen before. I hate it when those people just sick away when they don't know what they are doing, but I've never smacked one lol. I also hate needles!

Re: Blood Test Disaster
I feel for you. I look like a pin cushion myself right now. I don't like needles and now I have a huge bruise which I never bruise for that stuff. I hope you get a better lab next time.

Re: Blood Test Disaster
Tkeys,
That is a bummer. I had blood drawn on Tuesday and the lady was awesome and she got it right the first time and everything. That is so funny that you hit her. Way to show her who is boss. LOL

Re: Blood Test Disaster
I'm sorry you went through so much...i don't like being stuck either...I don't do too bad, I have to look away though (and before having my last baby, I was an RN in labor and delivery...). Drawing blood shouldn't be hard if veins are easily seen and/or felt...fyi, make sure you drink enough, and are well hydrated..that will help..not that you weren't well hydrated!!! She should have stopped sticking you after two times if she missed both times..especially when you tell her how you aren't good with needles..ugh!!! So, sorry.

Re: Blood Test Disaster
Oh my!!! I am so sorry to hear about that, but she probably deserved a good smack sticking you 6 times. When I went in last Sunday to get blood drawn I told the lady do not stick me unless she was sure that she could get blood! She was too afraid to try and had another lady come and do it, she had to take blood out of my left hand because my veins are so small. Ouch!!! I hope the next time you go in for blood work you'll have an easier time!

Re: Blood Test Disaster
If I have patient's who are tough sticks or have small veins, I always say, "Where do they usually draw blood from you?" Not that you are a tough stick, but it's just common sense to find out where the best place on that particular person is.
Whenever I go to give blood, I only offer my left arm. It's my only good vein and the only one anyone uses. And you can tell!! I look like a junkie from the track marks

Re: Blood Test Disaster
Ouch!! That's awesome though that you smacked her. She had it comin'! I hate when they dig around like that. I had a nurse do that when I was in the hospital after giving birth, and it was with one of the nice big IV needles. I had bruises everywhere because she kept trying in different places. Finally they sent someone from the IV team and she got it in without skipping a beat. From now on I am going to request someone like that instead of just letting them dig around inside my arm for it!

Oh that sucks!!!!
I feel your pain! I HATE having blood drawn. I don't mind shots too much but the blood thing kills me.
I am so sorry you had such a rough time but I do have to confess that I chuckled a little when I read that you SMACKED HER!!
