So . . . we told my parents tonight! I called my mom late this afternoon and told her we just got her Mother's Day gift, and we were so excited and couldn't wait to give it to her, and asked if we could come over this evening. I told her I didn't want to give it to her in front of my brother (money is pretty tight for my brother, so it isn't unusual for me to do that).
I made a cake (I'll post a picture below - I didn't love the colors, but I threw it together this afternoon with just leftover colors I had lying around from the cakes I did this weekend). We brought it in, all covered up, and I brought it in their dining room. I got my parents to come downstairs, and we started to open the cake for them. My mom was giving me a strange look - I thought she knew. We inadvertently unveiled the cake before we meant to and were having trouble getting the cover off, and I thought it was ruining the surprise . . . but my mom looked puzzled. Here is the cake:
She looked at the cake and said . . . what is it . . . a bathing suit? And the date . . . are you sending us on another trip that date (I've sent them on vacation before a few times). She and my dad are looking at each other, and not getting it!! So, I luckily had a bag of gifts (I thought they were going to be extraneous). I told my mom to look in the bag . . . and she pulled out a frame of the u/s picture. And again, she said "what is this?" It slowly dawned on them, and she asked WHO was pregnant!! Then she and my dad realized it was me, and they started crying and laughing and first hugged me, then hugged DH. I had my mom open the rest of the gifts - I made a cute little shirt that said grandma on it, and I peed on another CBE digital and threw that in the bag, too. They LOVED it!! We had a quick dinner and cut into the cake. They were so thrilled. It really went well . . . except I was surprised it took them so long to figure out the cake.
