Three + OPKs but no temp shift...
I posted this on the clomid board as well but I'd love input from you ladies too...
Okay...I'm starting to think that my having PCOS may be messing with the results of my OPK. I was very excited on Sat when I got a + OPK and was ready to see a temp shift. Then on Sun I got another + OPK but still no temp shift. I was still optimistic b/c I know the OPK can predict ovulation anywhere from 12 -36hrs (or something like that) before it happens. But then when I still didn't have a temp shift yesterday but still got a + OPK about 6pm yesterday I started getting concerned that maybe my LH is elevated b/c of PCOS and NOT b/c I am about to ovulate. I had some MAJOR o-pains last night though. What do you think? I only had a small increase in temp today...no "surge" yet. I am out of OPKs so I hope my temp shoots up tomorrow and then I will know for sure. Have any of you ever had several + OPKs before you actually see a surge?

Re: Three + OPKs but no temp shift...
I took an OPK test on Saturday around 10am and it was neg. I took another one the next day at the same time and it was clearly positive. I had some O pains on Monday and took another OPK when I got home Monday (yesterday) it was neg. So I'm assuming I ovulated yesterday. I noticed a slight temp rise this morning. About 2/10 of a degree.

Re: Three + OPKs but no temp shift...
I found this on the web...it seems to suggest that even with PCOS OPK should be "fairly" accurate...
"Occasionally a PCOS patient may have a false positive LH lvel on an OPK, but usually the kits are set to detect levels that would correspond to a serum level of 25 IU/L or higher. For the most part, the kits are reasonable, but even in normally ovulating women, there is a fals-positive rate of about 7-8%. Dr. Jon Havelock, PCRM"

Great find. That's good info to know. I have PCOS also so that is very comforting. do you have regular periods?

Re: Three + OPKs but no temp shift...
My periods have never been regular. I went on birth control when I was 18 to regulate them. They are very normal when on bc. I came off the pill when I got married in July 2004 and they went right back to being irregular. I charted all year last year and didn't take any pills to trigger my period and I only had 4 cycles all year!

Re: Three + OPKs but no temp shift...
Are you on any medication? Metformin can help regulate your cycles. It could be that you are not ovulating. Also, how many OPKs did you take - just those 3? The question is whether you are getting clear negative OPKs at times in your cycle when you are definitely not ovulating and your LH levels should be low (e.g., during your period). If you get positives, or 1/2 dark lines, that could be a sign that your LH levels are too high, and that you may not be ovulating.

Re: Three + OPKs but no temp shift...
oops - just saw that you were taking clomid. my temperature shift comes a few days after the positive OPK, and it isn't always a clear and big jump. So, keep temping. Also, inconsistencies in temping can make the shift harder to detect.

Re: Three + OPKs but no temp shift...
I took clomid 50mg this cycle and I take metformin 500mg twice a day. I took two OPK that were negative before getting three + ones. I always temp at the same time...even on the weekends so my chart is usually pretty easy for me to understand. My post O rise does tend to be kind of slow anyways so maybe I actually did O yesterday. I'm just going to wait and see. Thanks!
