Icon10 QOTD-Friday

Thanks for responding to yesterday's question girls! I love it!

Ok, for today.

I know that all of us want healthy happy babies above anything else. But, deep deep down inside I'd say most of us have a small preference as to the gender of our first/next baby. I will come forward and say mine is.....GIRL But this past weekend we were at a football game and some of the other wives from DH's work were talking about their teenagers and it made me start thinking about the pros and cons of each. So the question of the day is....

A. What would be your favorite thing about having a boy? And what can you see would be a downfall to having a boy?

B. What would be your favorite thing about having a girl? And what can you see would be a downfall to having a girl?

My favorite thing about having a boy would be that I would think of him as a mini version of my husband and that would be great. I think it would be cool to raise a boy and help in with "girls" in the teenage years and be close to him as he grows into a man. I would love watching him and DH load up the car for a fishing trip, it would mean so much to my husband and that would make me happy. The DOWNFALL....I picture a two or three year old boy destroying our whole house in one day! hahaha. They just seem so wild and into everything.

My favorite thing about having a girl would be having a buddy for myself. I am so girly and love clothes, make-up, hair stuff, cooking, crafting, I just think having a girl would be so fun because I could bond with her over those things and teach her all of the fun stuff about being a girl The downfall.... there is nothing sharper than the tongue of a 13 year old girl!!! I am afraid I would be in tears daily! haha.

I was so GIRL GIRL GIRL in the beginning of TTC but honestly since having that conversation last weekend I am seeing that there are so many wonderful things about both, I will be so grateful for a healthy baby, and will love him or her and bond with them over many things.

Another good question!

I actually really want one of each . . . but I really want to have 1 girl - if I didn't have a boy, I'd be okay with that (although DH really wants a boy). I don't necessarily care which one comes first, but if I had a boy this time, I'd be more nervous next time about wanting a girl.

As for pros & cons:

Boy: Well, all the men in both my family and DH's have ADD . . . so I'm really nervous about a wild boy with zero ability to concentrate, and all the bad behaviors that can come with that. They turn into wonderful adults, but can be really tough children. It would be fun to do all the "boy" things, and have trucks and stuff around the house, and a boy would have several male cousins to play with. A spiteful pro is that my brother is dying to have a boy, and is about to have his 2nd girl . . . so he'd be jealous! It would also be my parents' first grandson.

For a girl . . . well, I have such a close bond with my mother, and we are so much alike, that I reallly hope to have a girl and a similar relationship. I will really be able to know what she is going through, and I LOVE to buy girly baby clothes - they are all just too cute. A girl also would have 2 young girl cousins, and 2 much older ones . . . so lots of girls in the family. I can't think of any negatives with a girl . . . boys scare me a bit more! Perhaps because I was always the "good" child, and my brother was the "bad" child.

A. Pros of a boy--boys don't have the same hormonal changes that girls have. Watching the bond that DH would have with a little boy. Having a Momma's Boy (I know he totally would be--my boy cat certainly is).

Cons of a boy--they are wilder. They get into so much dirt. I don't know how I would handle puberty with a boy (and you all know what I'm talking about )

B. Pros of a girl--I know about girls. I love shopping for girlie stuff, fixing hair, nails, make-up. Dresses--I LOVE dresses.

Cons of a girl--the monthly menstrual cycle (thinking long term here). The mouths on a girl can be so sharp-tongued. She would be a daddy's girl (again, just like my two dogs and my other cat).

Well, I have each, and my fears, so far are not coming true.

Girl - my mom and I don't have the best relationship, and we had a really hard time during my adolecence. I'm worried about repeating that history. I think DD and I have a different relationship, though. No doubt, the teen years willl be trying at times, but I it will be ok. I love thinking about having a daughter who may someday have children of her own. I think a mother's relationship w/ her daughter is much different than w/ a DIL in relation to grandchildren. I'm really hoping that DD will let me be in the delivery room and let me help her out in those early difficult months. I know it's a long way off, but I think it will be great! Having a daughter is absolutely wonderful.

Boy - I worry about him leaving his mama in a way that girls don't seem to, and I worry about the physicality that boys tend to have (i.e. fights). I love how lovey and easy-going he is - so much less drama. Having a son (or two) is absolutely wonderful too!
