Do you think it's bad luck...
to start buying baby things (nothing gender specific obviously) before you are even pregnant? Or for that matter, before you really start ttc? I have been contemplating picking up a few things here and there as we prepare so that the expense doesn't hit us all at once, but I'm afraid that I will get everything bought and then it will take us awhile to get pregnant. (FWIW we had no trouble conceiving our girls.)

Re: Do you think it's bad luck...
I've picked up a few things, gender neutral since this will be our first. I don't think it's bad luck, especially since you have a good history with your girls.
What about buying BRU or target gift cards here and there that you can use for baby things when you need them?

I don't think that its bad luck but we don't purchase anything until the second trimester at least.
I think it sounds thrifty and sensible to pick up a bargain when you spot one though and Lisa's idea of a gift card is a great one!

Re: Do you think it's bad luck...
I have been buying things at rummage sales and Goodwills now for 2 years!
We'd better have twins- boy and girl because I have plenty of clothes now! I'd hate to have gotten all those girls clothes and then just have boys!
I find it therapeutic to buy baby stuff though. It keeps my spirits up!
I couldn't do the gift card thing, that's not fun enough!

Re: Do you think it's bad luck...
I've saved everything that isn't stained or full of rips/holes, so I don't feel the need for the next time around, but I did buy a few things prior to the baby being born. I never bought anything when not pregnant, though - not out of bad luck but just not in that mode.

Re: Do you think it's bad luck...
No. I actually started to buy things when I was in college. Crazy I know. I hid them away from everyone until I was pregnant with our first. They were not every day items, but I did get our baptismal gown then for 75% off. Its beautiful!
So no, I don't think its wrong at all.

I saved most everything until after Lucy was born. Since dh was pretty set against having another baby I have slowly gotten rid of nearly everything over the last year. I kept just a few special items and gave the rest to friends, freecycle, etc. So we will be starting from scratch this time around.

Re: Do you think it's bad luck...
I understand. DH wasn't hip to more, but I knew he'd come around, so I saved it. NOw...after 4, I will start getting rid of things, so if we change our minds (which I doubt), then I could be in your boat.
