When I was 18 years old I was hospitalized for a week with Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clot) from my knee to my groin and another small one in my abdomen. After many blood tests and painful IV's I was told I had a condition called Factor V Leiden and the birth control I had been taking for 2 years onset this huge blood clot in my leg and abdomen. To make matters worse, I'm somehow homozygous for it as well. My mom got tested for it, and she doesn't have it, so we're thinking my dad gave it to me and my other gene mutated itself. He won't get tested for it so I guess I'll never know.
Now my doctor told me she doesn't know if I will ever be able to have children. The reason being, if taking birth control with the tiny bit of {hormones?} gave me that big of a blood clot, what would pregnancy do? I've gone online and researched a bit and I've seen cases of women being heterozygous and DVT and women who are homozygous and no DVT but i've never heard of a woman being homozygous and having had DVT. Is it possible for me to have children? I'm now 21 and I'm with the man I'm going to marry, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to reproduce. Does anyone know of anyone with my condition that has been able to have a healthy baby? I currently have a copper IUD so the chances of an accidental pregnancy are like, .4%, but the boy's 28 and wants to have a kid in the next 3 or 4 years and I just want to know i guess. I'm scared
Thanks Guys!
