Re: October updates on PG mommies
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Moms,
I just found this board today. I am 42 and had my first Dr. visit yesterday after realizing I am blessed with an unexpected pregnancy. I am a divorced mom of 3 great kids ages 17, 16, and 12. My boyfriend is totally on board with this pregnancy and we are happy but shocked when the Dr. went down the checklist of risks. I cried in the Dr.'s office as he read the statistics and I was shocked and fear hit me hard. As I look around on the web and this site I am seeing that people over 40 really are having healthy babies . What a relief! Just wondering if you are hearing more happy stories than stories of babies being born with challenges?

My Jewels....12/07 Where did I come from?" the baby asked its mother. She answered, half-crying, half-laughing, and clasping the baby to her breast: "You were hidden in my heart as its desire, my darling. You were in the dolls of all my childhood games. In all my hopes and my loves, in my life, in the life of my mother, and in her mother before her, you have lived."

Re: Welcome photomom500
Thanks for the welcome. I felt really bad after I posted and THEN figured out what "TTC" meant. I sure hope i didn't make any TTC moms feel bad and if so...please forgive my ignorance. I was so alarmed after my Dr. visit and was just looking for some success stories with healthy babies. While this baby wasn't expected, it sure is wanted...and will be loved dearly!

Re: Welcome photomom500
The more the merrier I say! Welcome!
I am currently TTC #2 at the age of 41... well, OK, I'll be 42 in less than a month. I really hate how the doctors make us feel so stressed about pregnancy after 40 (or even after 35). I had my first child at 39 -- a very healthy little boy. Most of the stories I know for women over 40 are positive. Certainly there are risks, but that is also true if you are 25. It's all relative. And if you turn the statistics around, there is a 98% chance that everything will be fine!
An accupuncturist I recently went to made a comment that she thinks it's awful how the medical community approaches pregnancies in general. She said she, and other fertility practitioners, would rather treat a 45 year old woman who takes care of herself than a 25 year old who doesn't.
Wishing you a very happy and healthy 9 months!

Re: Welcome photomom500
Tina..you made some great points!
98% chance everything will be fine!!!!
I was going to a fertility doctor for a while who always made me feel like my age was the death to my hopes of having a baby. It drove me crazy, because I had always been so fertile and I felt he was leading me down the road to very expensive treatments.
In the end, we planned to try IVF with a donor egg...I went to my first visit to back to his office for blood work, meds, and the financial stuff ironed out...I bought my meds and went home..the nurse was to call me later to tell me how much Lupron to inject that night...but instead she informed me I was preg....ALL ON MY OWN...WITH MY OWN EGG OF COURSE...FOR FREE..lolol I was right, I knew my own body could do this. So, take what they say with a grain of salt..no more.
Good luck!!

Re: Welcome photomom500
That's a great and very encouraging story Lori! The fertility specialist I went to would have us going down the same road... I came out of there in tears. I started considering IVF right away, but the more I read, the more I feel I should just keep trying on my own. The odds seem about the same and the natural way is sure a lot less expensive (and more fun)
