Where did I come from?" the baby asked its mother. She answered, half-crying, half-laughing, and clasping the baby to her breast: "You were hidden in my heart as its desire, my darling. You were in the dolls of all my childhood games. In all my hopes and my loves, in my life, in the life of my mother, and in her mother before her, you have lived."

Re: May updates on PG mommies
Hi All,
All is well so far, I have my amniocentesis on May 20th so please keep your fingers crossed that this goes well and I *think* that should be our last hurdle. I will admit I am very nervous about this appointment, not so much about the results as I am the actual procedure. The thought of that needle freaks me out! Have any of you had this done? If so please let me know what I can truly expect. The Doctors make it sound like it's a walk in the park and nearly painless but some how I just don't buy that!
Hope you are all well and Baby Dust to all!!!

Re: May updates on PG mommies
Yay! I'm glad everything is going well so far. I've had 4 amnios with no problems. I only had verymild cramping afterward with one. My 1st took a bit longer cuz the baby kept reachin up everytime we tried to advance the needle and had to wait for him to move. I also had a bad dream after the 1st, but that was just cuz I had been so apprehensive. I don't see why you should have any problem with an experienced practioner. The wait can be hard, but you can also request results to be done in like 10 days(vs 2 wks) I think. Ask ahead of time to be sure. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. I'll be thinking of you.

Re: May updates on PG mommies
Ok the "advance the needle" thing FREAKS ME OUT!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I'm such a big sissy! (This from a girl who has 4 tattoos and still has a belly button piercing)
What can I expect in the amount of pain with regard to the needle?

Re: May updates on PG mommies
I remember a pressure and a burning, some pain while advancing through uterine muscle, but not awful. I know some people get very freaked by needles, but try not to focus on it. Get yourself some kind of distraction. Hold and squeeze dh's hand. It's only momentary discomfort ans when it's over, it's over. Good luck!

Re: May updates on PG mommies
As I recall, when I had it done the pain was not much worse than any other needle. I had no problems either and it really was no big deal with regards to pain. I'm thinking a belly button piercing would be way more painful, LOL.
Wishing you all the best for the test and with your pregnancy.

Re: May updates on PG mommies
Thanks!!! The belly button piercing was done way back in 1990, just after DD was born, *sigh* almost 18 years ago! Where has the time gone? Ok, well I can do it, I'll be just fine! Thanks again, I think my fear comes more from the unknown then anything else and you gals sharing your experience helps me not be as frightened.
Baby Dust to all and Blessings!
