At a loss, I need an opinion please (children ment)
We have been ttc for almost 4 yrs now and I am almost 45 yrs old. I am debating trying one of two things, as herbs, accupuncture and natural conception does not seem to be working. And my insurance cover absolutely nothing to do with infertility.
I am trying to decide whether to go on bcp for 3 months to try and get my system to work again. (I conceived twice in the 80's both times after a bout with bcps) OR ask my OB to get some Femara, I was on Clomid and it was a disaster I have heard alot of good things about Femara.
I would appreciate any opinions in this matter.

Re: At a loss, I need an opinion please (children ment)
I got pregnant both times using a combination of IUI, Femara, and injectables. The only side effect I noticed with Femara was tiredness, but since I took it at night it wasn't a big deal. The injectables were expensive, but the Femara was covered by my insurance and was just a copay. There are pharmacies online that sell fertility drugs (including the injectables) much cheaper than your local pharmacy, and they overnight ship so you can get them right away. I know a lot of women have had good experiences with Freedomdrug.com. You might even try IUI (again, that's what we did), clean up the little spermies and get them right where they need to go. Not as expensive as IVF by far! I think the IUI procedure was about $200, and the semen wash was also around $200 and this is in Northern California where things are more expensive than just about anywhere.
Check out the IUI and Femara boards here, there is a ton of info there! Good luck!

Re: At a loss, I need an opinion please (children ment)
Have you had a hysteroscopy? If not, it might help. The dr. can check for any physical reasons it might not be working. Even just a little cleanup of the lining can make a difference. And the insurance should cover it as long as the dr. doesn't say it's just for infertility(if he gives more specific medical problem: irregular cycles, heavy bleeding, repeated m/c, no ovulation, ... whatever applies specifically for you).
My dr. told me that it's well known that there is a higher chance of getting preg. in the same month or next few months after having a hysteroscopy.

Re: At a loss, I need an opinion please (children ment)
No I haven't had a hysteroscopy. I am not sure my OB would do one that I would not have to pay full price out of pocket for. I went in for problems after taking the Clomid for 3 months and he put it down as infertility related and I ended up paying for the visit out of pocket. I am not sure what I could go in for though. AF is less than 3 days and very light, almost always 28 days, last m/c was in 2005, and he swears I o every month, even when my temps say I don't. I seem to have perfect or almost perfect charts, but still can't seem to get my bfp. Do you think they could do it, due to AF being so short and light? He never mentioned it to me when AF went to less than 12 hrs after Clomid. Just so frustrated about the whole thing

I totally get the frustration. Not sure if I would try the BCPs at this point. I don't think the Femara could hurt, but IUI would probably be your best option with it. Sorry your insurance doesn't cover much.

That is what I hear, I have checked IUI and it does seem that would be my best bet.
After soo many cy of ttc I actually kick myself every time AF shows, that I moved out of NY. They at least require some infertility help.
My annual is coming up and my OB has one more chance to try for some advise. Every time I have to tell him what I want he is supposed to be the expert.

Re: At a loss, I need an opinion please (children ment)
I'm sorry to say this, but it sounds like you need to kick your dr. to the roadside ditch, and get one who has a clue. If something is off with your reproductive organs, then the insurance should pay for tests to find out why. And your dr. should be helping you get it straight, not standing in the way.
Sorry, but i've dealt with some really incompetant dr's, and don't like to see others going thru the same nonsense.
