Default hormone ?

someone at LLL told me recently that when you are an older mom it takes longer for your hormones to re-adjust after giving birth...making it hard to conceive again. has anyone else heard this?

(my pp af hasn't come back yet) not another obstacle!

No I haven't, but it makes sense PP for anyone really. But we all know those who conceive right away. I have a friend on another board who is a LLL leader. Let me throw it out there to her, and I'll get back to you.

Where did I come from?" the baby asked its mother. She answered, half-crying, half-laughing, and clasping the baby to her breast: "You were hidden in my heart as its desire, my darling. You were in the dolls of all my childhood games. In all my hopes and my loves, in my life, in the life of my mother, and in her mother before her, you have lived."

I don't know; I haven't heard that. I BF'd my son for 17 months with absolutely no sign of AF. It reappeared as soon as I stopped (within a month I think) and I went back to the usual clockwork schedule. I was 40 when I stopped BF. (It took me 18 months to get pregnant the first time, so I guess I'm not totally surprised that it's not going quickly the second time either.)

Ok, so here's what I got

Nursing moms have from what I observe had increase fertility after they night wean. Women who nurse over 16 months tend to ovulate first and then have a period. That of course can vary. The way a person nurses can effect cycles and fertility as much as age.

I asked again specifically today about age being a factor, and she said she never heard of that. Keep us posted.

Too much prolactin causes infertility. Evolution.... can't feed the baby growing inside if you're feeding the baby outside. There's also a condition called Hyperprolactinemia in which the prolactin levels need to be lowered with medication before a normal cycle can happen. Same idea. And like anything else, some women are more sensitive than others to a change in hormone levels. So it's just a question of how long you want to continue BFing and delay TTCing.

just info, KurPlop!

True, however I think it's very individualized. I know plenty of women who conceived while BFing, BF throughout their Pgncies, and even tandem nursed both babes post partum. I think everyone's body's are a complex system, and some are more or less sensitive to hormones. My mom conceived twins while BFing when I was 2 mos. old. My SIL conceived subsequent children while BFing 2 different children, and then tandem nursed. I conceived 2 children while BFing as well.

You're right, nothing is ever guarenteed. However, it does tend to be the norm.
(whatever that means where women are involved )

What Are The Chances Of Getting Pregnant While Breastfeeding? - The Labor of Love Articles

If the prolactin level is not consistantly kept high there can be "breakthrough ovulation". That's a strange term, but sounds like it happens for women a fair amount. Gives us all some hope.

All the stuff i looked up about prolactin does make me wonder, though.
The levels are increased with breast stimulation. That's almost always the case where men and baby-making are concerned.

I think you have something with the break through ovulation Jess. Babies nursing can be erratic at times. That would certainly account for it.
