Uh Oh -- The Turkey Question
So, while my MIL were discussing our Thanksgiving dinner menu, Mallory suddenly got an alarmed look on her face and said, "Hey! We're eating a TURKEY? A real turkey with feathers? I don't want to eat a turkey, that's not nice!"
I admit, I froze in panic. What to say? My MIL said very smoothly, "No, we're not eating an animal turkey, we're eating food turkey."
"Oh, okay," Mallory said, as if this made perfect sense.
She asked the same question a few more times this weekend, and I gave her the same lame half-a$$ answer. I just don't know exactly what to say. Is she ready for the harsh realities of being a carnivore? Is she too young to be told that yeah, that turkey we're going to eat was once a "real" turkey with feathers?
What would you say?
