Icon5 OPK's

Has anyone ever used the OPK's from early-pregnancytests.com? I'm just wondering, because according to the directions, a "faint" line indicates a negative result but all the other signs were there that I ovulated (ie. temp change, cm, etc.). Just wondering if anyone out there had similar results.

Can you post your chart link? It would help to have a visual. As for the "cheapo" tests, most of them are unreliable as per their instructions. I use the babywishes tests, and have never had a full on positive. I will say that if you use them long enough, you begin to recognize what your version of a positive looks like, so that you know what to expect (and what not to expect).

When I started using babywishes, I had laid a big towel on a counter in the guest bath (because if my husband ever saw what I was doing he'd have had a cow). I then tested every day twice a day and would lay the sticks on the towel so that I could see the pattern. Over time, I saw that while I did not have a complete positive, I could tell the difference on the sticks that should have been positive (as per their description) and those that preceded and those that followed.

I don't know if any of that makes sense!!

Thanks! As I've never used OPK's before, I'm quite apprehensive. I guess just like everything else in the world, you get what you pay for. I might have to bite the bullet and buy a clearblue or something like that. I just figured that I wouldn't have a problem getting pregnant, but I'm assuming that my age is playing a big factor in all of this.

I could never read an OPK, even an expensive one. I thought they left way too much room for interpretation. I bit the bullet and bought the Clear Plan Monitor. It was expensive ($170) but I've used it for six years now, so I've certainly gotten my use out of it, and it's a heck of a lot easier. And I shudder to think how much I would have spent on OPKs by now. Sometimes you can find good deals on them on Ebay.

Thanks for your post. I guess the only thing to do now is anxiously await. Question though, I've read that if in fact a pregnancy is achieved, that your temp. will stay in the higher range, is this true?

Hey there!

I've been buying my cheapies from http://thefertilityshop.com . I'm guessing they are similar to what you are using. I copied this from their ovulation facts and maybe it will help you:

Is it possible to Ovulate and not see a positive result on my Urine Ovulation Test Stick?

You can ovulate without seeing a positive result (positive meaning two lines of equal color). The reason is that urine ovulation tests are usually used with the 2nd morning urine. However many women actually surge in the afternoon.

Follow this:

Day 1 am: Take the ovulation test...and you see a light result line.
Day 2 am: Take the ovulation test and you see a light result line.

If you surged in the afternoon...you missed seeing a dark line.

Often, when women are being closely monitored for an IUI or other procedure they will be told to take 2 tests a day. One around 10 am and the other around 4pm. That is so they do not miss that afternoon surge result.

So yes, it is possible to ovulate and not see a positive result. It more than likely means you surged somewhere inbetween the 24 hour space of testing.
