Icon5 RE Consult on Tuesday-Need Advice on What To Ask

Ok...so I'm finally heading to the RE on Tuesday for a consult!

Do any of you (current TTC 30-somethings or grads) have any advice on what to ask the RE or suggest to the RE? :please I'd like to have a list of questions to ask him so we can cover a lot of issues while we're there!

TIA!

Guess I should give a Brief history, huh?:

TTC #1 for about 6 years
2 HSG's = all clear
b/w = all clear
DH's s/a = "normal" but on the low side of count/motility
Tried Numerous cycle of Clomid =
1st Clomid/IUI cycle =
m/c on 2/3/06 at 5 weeks =
Lap on 8/3/06 to remove endo and cervical stenosis =
Another Clomid/IUI cycle in Sept =
Currently in the 2WW =

I know I probably need to try injectibles but is there any tests that I'm missing? I hope they do another s/a on DH at their lab so we can get a better idea on his numbers. I think I've pretty much got all the basic stuff taken care of...I'm just afraid he'll say there isn't anything else he can do but IVF and my insurance doesn't cover it!

TIA!

OK, I have a few questions for ya.

How did you respond to the clomid? Like in follies and lining and such? The reason I asked is b/c I was put on clomid b/c I wasn't Oing. Then on clomid I only Od 1 or 2 at the max follies. No offense to us 30-somethingers but we aren't 20 something anymore and our eggs are getting old. Clomid just wasn't doing it for me. So I asked for femara...it rocked my ovaries and I was shocked. Just wondering if you want to try a cycle or two of that to maximize the follies/targets along with IUI. And you are right...maybe going to injectibles would be next.
I would also do another S/A. Results vary so much but in the case of doing IUI I am not sure that would help...I mean he gets a basic S/A when the wash is done anyway.

What about IUI with the special wash they do. I have emailed my friend to find out exactly what it's called. But I would maybe try that...just something a little different.

And a second opinion is always good.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Lindsay...to answer your questions:

I O on my own and was only given Clomid to help with DH's targets as he has "low" but normal count and motility.

Lining on Clomid has always been a little on the thin side as far as I'm concerned...I can't remember what it was a few cycles ago and the last couple of times I forgot to ask!

As far as follies...maybe 1 or 2 mature ones at the most! I can remember when I was like 26yrs old they gave me Clomid and I had way more than that! I took 100mg this last time and it gave me that huge follicle so I don't think it's working for me anymore!

I was thinking about asking about the hamster egg penetration test for DH's boys. I believe another girl on here had that done and it should he couldn't penetrate the egg and then they added a gradient to the washed sperm and done and IUI and within couple of cycles, it worked (KellyA). My Ob's office doesn't do an actual count of the post washed sperm, I have seen it on the microscope and they were tons swimming everywhere!

I'm also going to look at the Welcome thread on this board as Janay told me there were websites to help you figure out what to ask. So, I've got some researching to do this evening. I do know that this RE is probably one of the best in Ohio...he's got a long list of things he's done/involved in and is a professor at University of Cincinnati and West Virginia University and he's a specialist in endometrosis.

Thanks for your input!

My RE gave us the percentage results of IUIs based on DH's counts vs an IVF. I guess it would be nice to have that info.

I agree with Linds. REs are open to such a wider protocol. I know your OB was really limited where you are at. I know you are O'ing on Clomid, but maybe some of the inj could give you that boost you are looking for.

I agree with the percentages doing IUI vs IVF I knew we were going straight to IVF because of my "severe" stage of endo, but I think your RE will be open to injectables/IUI. I can't wait to hear what they say!! It's so exciting isn't it!?

I think the hamster egg test is a great idea. Amy's dh had that done and it seemed to have explained the unexplained IF.

There's more b/w they could order that you probably haven't had. That might be the next step.

I wouldn't be surprised if the suggested 1-2 more IUIs. Maybe all you need is a different medication such as femara or injectibles.

I've gone overboard on tests, but since I pay for IVF, it's been worth it. Most tests were done after 2 failed IVFs, but the b/w was done after 1 failed ivf.

As far as questions, I don't really have a list that would pertain to your situation. What would you suggest? would get the conversation started and then you'd probably want to know more about what is suggested.
