I just wanted to let you all know that around 2:30 this afternoon our beautiful baby girl Ansley Caroline went to be with Jesus. Surrounded by our family, Mike and I both held our baby girl as she took her last breath. But our baby girl was a fighter as we all knew from the beginning. Her heart continued to beat for about 40 minutes after the vent was turned off the tubes were out.
Ansley had a pulmonary hemorrhage which is what caused her to bleed out and die. We also found out this morning that she had some chromosome abnormality (final results of the amnio came back) that she is missing a piece of her 10th chromosome which could lead to problems later in life. Due to this finding they did an EKG as well as an ultrasound of her and found she had several holes in her heart and a bad kidney. She would probably have severe developmental delays and possible mental retardation. Not that any of this is easy and we would have played the hand we were dealt but it made it easier to let her go knowing she would not have had a good life with those conditions. I think the hemorrhage was God's way of letting us know he was going to take her back and take care of her. He just wanted us to meet her and love her for a while. Which I will be eternally grateful. I got to hold my one and only baby girl!!!
Mike and I were able to take the remaining tubes out and clean her up. We also go to take her footprints and handprints to make some keepsakes. We then bathed her and redressed her in a Carolina Blue dress, wrapped her back up and put her back in her bed. I got to play mommy and dress my baby girl for the first and last time.
This picture is from last night. We got to hold and "kangaroo care" with Ansley. I put my wedding ring on her hand to show you just how small but what a fighter she was.
Our boys are doing great. They are almost ready to be off the vent and on the CPAP for breathing. We have to be here and be strong for them.
Please continue to pray for our baby boys and family during this time. We need to be strong for our boys and see them get stronger and healthier.
