new and possibly pg?
Hi, I'm new and plan to look around the newbie area after I post this. My name is Shauna and I'm 27. I've never been pregnant. DH is 28, we've been together for 2 years and married for 6 months of that. We were planning to wait till spring to TTC but plans are changing. I was on Mirena until December 7th (removed dut to constant repeat yeast infections) and I began Yaz BCP the same day. LMP was Jan 8th and it was about 2 days long. The last week and a half I have been on antibiotics (Bactrim) and we haven't used a backup. On top of this we went out of town over the last holiday weekend and the schedule change prompted me to forget 2 pills, plus I took a few others off schedule (I have never been good with BCP, that's why I had the IUD).
Anyway, the last 4-5 days I've had sporadic cramping, some nausea around bedtime, and breast pain ranging from soreness to sharp pains (I have implants so they're not any bigger but the pain is not implant related). I have heard these could be early pg symptoms, but I also think it could be my body trying to adjust to the inconsistency in BC. DH and I think it might be better to just stop these pills though I have over a week left in the pack. That way my period either comes or it doesn't and we'll have a better idea of what's up. Or should I take a HPT now? It seems a little early but I'm new at this so who knows. That's why I am here!
Thanks for the help and great information, I hope to get to know you all!

Re: new and possibly pg?
You could try a HPT, but you are correct... it may be too early to detect. I would continue to take the bcps as scheduled so not to confuse your body. If your period does not start after taking the last of your bcp, contact/ schedule an appointment with your ob/gyn. Also, they might be able to recommend a contraceptive method that would work out better for you (such as the contraceptive ring or something???)

Re: new and possibly pg?
Hello I am Di,
I am new here too and this is also my first post. I am in a similar situation. I am 27 and my husband is 29. We have been trying for 2 months now. However, I was due for my period 4 days ago but it hasn't come yet. I have done two pregnancy tests but both came back negative. I have been feeling a bit queezy in the stomach some mornings but don't know if I am imagining it in the hope that I will be pregnant.
Has anyone had a similar thing? Is it possible to be pregnant and to get a negative test? What should I do? Go to the doctor? Keep testing? or just presume my period has become irregular?? Since going off the pill about 6 or 7 months ago it has been a little irregular but seems to have settled out to a 33 day cycle over the past three or four months.
Advice or comments would be great thanks,
Di.

Re: new and possibly pg?
It is possible to be pregnant and get a negative test, because some women don't produce high enough hcg levels early in pregnancy. It is also possible to throw your cycle off by strongly believing you are pregnant when you're not ( I've done this in the past). My recommendation would be to wait 3/4 more days and retest if AF has not shown, if you still get a negative result make an appointment with your doctor... they could do a blood test which detects the smallest amount of hcg if you are pregnant or they can give you something to cause AF to start. Hope this helps!!

Re: new and possibly pg?
Thanks heaps for your reply,
Peviously I had only tested in the pm so this morning when I got up I tested first thing as my friend told me that it is more acurate in the morning. Anyway it was negative again. Bugger! and still no period. I am thinking that I might try and contact my doctor early next week as you suggested and either get a blood test or get him to see what he can do. What is AF. Sorry it might be a stupid question but I have only been on just got onto this sight and don't know very much at all about the whole pregnancy thing.
How do they get your AF to start? Do they give you an injection, or tablet or what? It is bad / risky??? My doctor has never mentioned it. In fact I have never heard about it before but that is hardly suprising as I know very little about everything to do with conception / babies etc.

Re: new and possibly pg?
Ooops...sorry, I missed your post last week. There is a thread on the cycle buddies board that has alot of acronyms used in the boards... I think the thread is called "learn our Language" or something like that...
I think it is a pill that can get AF to start... I've never used it so I can't be of much help in that area, but I think it is used pretty frequently by doctors. If you still haven't started, I would definately get in to see your doctor. He/she will do a blood test to see if your pg and if not then will probably suggest giving you something to bring AF on.
Hope this helps. KUP on how things go! GL!

Re: new and possibly pg?
Hey Guys,
I went to the doctors and had blood test done. I got the results this afternoon and it came back negative. Bugger! My doctor sent me for more blood tests this afternoon to see what my hormones are doing. However, I got my period tonight on day 41. So I guess that is good news that I didn't miss it as such, instead it just came very late. But atleast we can start trying again now.
Just wondering about this whole charting thing. I though charting was just noting down when your period starts. However, I have noticed people are talking about temperatures etc. So I am gathering there is a lot more to this whole charting thing than I was aware of. Just wondering if you can fill be in or send me to a thread - board where I can find out about it. Having had a 30 day cycle, followed by a 33, followed by a 41 I have no idea when I am ovulating, and having sex everyday for a week and a half is pretty hard work (for us atleast, I dunno if that is normal or not!!). Do you recommend the use of ovulation tests? When would I start testing because I will have a pretty big time frame between which I could be ovulating? Sorry I am very new to this whole thing and judging from the fact that I am not pregnant yet I guess I am not doing a very good job of it. I try and plan having sex in the right time frame but each time my cycle keeps changing. Frustrating?? Any help or advice would be great.
Thanks.
