Grads Thread #41 (preg and baby ment)
I will start this one off since I was the last to post (100 poster) on the previous thread.
Grads post your updates, belly pics anything related to your pregnancy here and only place them here to be considerate to those ttc.. ALSO post here about your babies if you have a baby.
If you're not a grad feel free to post well wishes, questions, anything to the grads here and only in this post and not elsewhere on the board!!
This thread was created to keep our grads feeling comfortable on this board to update us on their pregnancies without having multiple pregnancy related posts on this TTC Board.
Grads ~ Please remember to update the stats thread on your Due dates along with any other important info, so I can post them in our 20 Something important info thread.

Re: Grads Thread #41 (preg and baby ment)
Lindsay- About the sunglasses, Presley is no problem because she wears regular glasses all the time. Plus, her silicone lenses give a lot of glare, so UVA/UVB glasses really help. Peyton also has a bad glare from her cataracts, so she has been wearing sunglasses since she was tiny... about 2 months old. Everybody always said, "Oh LOOK at that TINY baby... they are making her wear sunglasses!" (Mostly older women, it seemed.) I always felt like they were taking a jab at my parenting skills, so I would say very pointedly, "She HAS to wear them. They are not for looks, she has cataracts." and in my head I would add "you old bat". I'm such a sweetheart... but I digress.
Parker's lenses are crystal clear because our good God hears prayers. We still took her to our pediatric ophthalmology specialist in Charleston, and he gave her a thorough exam and the most excellent diagnosis: NO CATARACTS!! Woohoo!

Re: Grads Thread #41 (preg and baby ment)
Thank God Parker doesn't have them. I didn't think she did but I couldn't remember. They are so cute....and the sunglasses are even cuter. Some people...just don't get it. I hope you make them feel bad enough to never say something like that again.

Re: Grads Thread #41 (preg and baby ment)
Jill~Your girls are so cute
I have a quick question for you ladies.
Have any of you ever tried Breast Therapy Soothing Gel Patches? If so how did they work. I really want to breastfeed this time around. I've had problems with pain, cracked and bleeding nipples etc. I'm trying to get prepared. Also what is a good thing to increase supply?

Re: Grads Thread #41 (preg and baby ment)
Jessica- I have never tried the gel pacs, but anything that is cool/cold can reduce supply, so I think you would need to use them sparingly. A good way to prepare for bfeeding is to start NOW applying lanolin (Lansinoh brand is best) at least once a day. After the baby is born, apply lanolin after every feeding whether you think you need to or not. It does not have to be removed before feeding (at least Lansinoh doesn't because it's ultra pure). To increase supply, nurse nurse nurse!! Definitely nurse on demand. If you even START to develop an issue, get help immediately!
Oatmeal has long been known to increase supply (worked for me) and there are herbs, too, like fenugreek and a tea called Mother's Milk that can help, but don't get ahead of yourself. Try your best not to stress about it, that can make things worse.
Start out by saying that you WILL breastfeed this baby. Set a goal (even just like 6 months or so) that can be renegotiated when you reach it. Surround yourself with people that will support you and arm yourself with (accurate) information.
Lactation/beginning the nursing relationship is part of my doula training/job. Let me know if I can help.
Good luck! I know you can do it!!

Re: Grads Thread #41 (preg and baby ment)
Jessica, I actually had cracked/bleeding and painful nips this time and the LC at my hospital gave me "Soothies" gel pads. they weren't cold unless you stuck them in the fridge, and they helped tremendously. They are probably the only reason I am still BF because I was in so much pain I was seconds away from quitting. They accelerated the healing and made it much easier to deal with the pain when she latched on (it hurt until I was no longer cracked, but between feedings the soothies made it feel better). You can find them at Fred Meyers and Target. I think I've even seen them at Walgreens and I think the ad I saw said you could get them at CVS Pharmacy.
Set your goal, like Darci said. And take the BF class to refresh yourself. I thought since I'd BF DS I could do it easily with DD and wow, did I have some problems. Way different!! Educate yourself with the correct latch it even changed between kaden and Jailee. The LC at my hospital really helped, even though I thought I knew it all already. And just remember you can do it! Any amount of BM your baby gets is better than none!

Re: Grads Thread #41 (preg and baby ment)
I also used the gel patches and LOOOVED them!!! They were more of a cool feeling and not actually cold...man those were amazing!!! I would/will use them again!!! Girl you can TOTALLY DO IT!!! It's so so worth it...even though I bf for 18 months I still wish I never quit!!! Expecially because I dont know if I'll ever have the chance again GOOD LUCK

Re: Grads Thread #41 (preg and baby ment)
POSTED ON DIA BOARDS ALSO
Just popping in before I head to work....Just wanted to update you ladies on my first OB appointment yesterday.
13weeks 6 days
Saw the doctor for the first time this afternoon. All is well. I spoke to her about my double uterus and she diagnosed me with Bicornuate Uterus. Here are some pics I found online that show what it is.

Info on just one site I looked at:
Bicornuate
This is the most common congenital uterine anomaly. It results from a failure of fusion between the mullerian ducts at the 'top'. This failure may be "complete" which results in a two separate single horn uterine bodies sharing one cervix. Alternatively, in a "partial" bicornuate uterus fusion between the mullerian ducts occurred at the 'bottom', but not the 'top'. Thus, there is a single uterine cavity at the bottom with a single cervix, but it branches into two distinct horns at the top. Since the ducts never fused at the top, these two horns are separate structures when seen from the outside of the uterus.
Effect - Pregnancies in women with a bicornuate uterus have a 55 -63% fetal survival rate with a 15 -25% rate of preterm delivery. The incidence of preterm delivery is higher (66%) in women with a complete bicornuate uterus. As with unicornuate uteri, the preterm delivery rate may be increased by the small uterine cavity size and by a high incidence of cervical incompetence.

Also what it looks like with the baby growing inside.
So my baby is in the right horn and doing fine. My doctor did go over some complications that could occur such as, smaller baby due to smaller uterus, pre-term labor, breech, etc. She's not considering me high risk but to see how my pregnancy progresses. I may or may not need a c-section all depends on when that time comes. I'm just happy to know that it's not as bad as it could have been. This type of uterus anomaliy is very common.
She was a great doctor and very informational. I even got a quick peek at my baby when she couldn't hear the heartbeat with the doppler so I got to see it on the U/S. She's also keeping my due date of April 12th and I go back in 3 weeks for all my labs and then the following appointment will be the BIG ULTRASOUND!!!! I can't wait!!
I also told my boss about the pregnancy today. She took it great. Was very excited for me and told me not to worry that we'll work something out. So it was a great day today.

Katie -- I am so glad you got good news and that you have a dr that took the time to explain everything to you. It does sound pretty scary, but it must feel great to know things are looking very good.

Patty I hope you are an actual grad after this cy!!! Good luck!!
Katie, sounds like you have a great dr. too!! I'm glad they had the time to explain all that to you, information is always nice, and knowing what you are headed into may make it all easier. Especially when you look back and say it was silly for your Dr. to tell you all that because everything works out fine!!

Re: Grads Thread #41 (preg and baby ment)
Hey guys!
Katie glad everything went well with your Dr.
Jill your babygirl is so cute and cuddly
Patty its good to hear from you. Can't wait to see Grad behind your name.. Its long over due.
Well I've been spotting brown/rusty brown off and on since Friday afternoon.
I don't have cramps and its not heavy bleeding so I haven't felt the need for a trip to the ER.
But we do plan on calling in to the Dr tomarrow for a same day appointment. I'll let you guys know whats going on after that.
