Default Serious debate #1: Abortion

Ok, where do you stand, and why?

I'm a fence-sitter. I think abortion is a womans choice, but I dont think it should be used as birth control by people too lazy to use protection. I have never had an abortion, but in certain circumstances (severe birth defects, danger to my health/life) I would do.

I feel exactly the same. I also think that in a rape situation aboration should be an option.

I am a pretty firm fence sitter, however I have very strong feelings about late term abortion. No, no, no, no, no!!!!!! If you have gotten that far in your pregnancy, deal with it!! Either give the child up for adoption or step up to the plate, but don't wait until you are eight months pregnant to do something.

Oh and I mean late term abortions in anything other than health issues. I think we can all agree those are understandable.

Ok, so, what would we count as late term?

I think 24 weeks (which is what it is in the uk) is fine, because it often doesnt come to light until the 20 week u/s that there is any problems with the baby.

I think third trimester is late term. 24 weeks still falls into the second trimester.

I am NOT on the fence. I don't agree with abortion. However there are extreme cases to consider it. Danger to mothers health, extreme health problems and/ or deformities for child, and incest. I do think that abortions is used entirely to often for birth control methods. Late term abortions are a big NONO. Partial Birth Abortions ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Their reasoning behind why partial birth abortions should be okay, is the biggest joke of all. Now for the part I truly truly don't understand. Abortion is legal and therefore not considered murder. (I think it should be illegal) However if a person kills a pregnant woman and the baby dies, he/she can be charged with 2 murders. Now if that isn't the most hypocritical stupid thing I have ever heard. So that is how I feel, sorry it turned into a book.

I guess I say I am on the fence because I make exceptions (health issues & sexual assault). Most people are black and white either for it in all cases or against it in all cases.

ITA about it being used as a bc method too often. When women have three and four abortions because of "oops". Get a brain.

Partial birth abortion has me seething. I didn't mention it because I didn't want to subject everyone to my rant on that :-)
