Re: Basal thermometer?
I think most people who temp use a thermometer with two decimal places, I don't really see why the one you bought wouldn't work though unless you have a very small temperature shift. Someone do correct me if there is something special about basal thermometers besides the extra decimal place.
As for folic acid, the CDC recommends 0.4mg (milligrams) which equates to 400mcg (micrograms). Check the units on the label, there is a HUGE difference between mg and mcg and both units are equally common. Many prenatal vitamins include 800-1000mcg which is really going overboard once you take into account that you should be getting most of the daily recommended allowance (400mcg) from fresh fruits, breads/grains and green leafy vegetables in the first place as part of a healthy diet. Since it's incredibly difficult and rare for someone to overdoes on folic acid (our bodies treat any excess as waste and won't absorb it), you shouldn't worry about having too much. Treat the CDC recommedendation as a minimum and just don't go crazy overboard since taking too much is the same as just throwing the pills in the trash anyhow.
Because folic acid deficiency has been linked to neural tube defects (spine and lower brain problems), that develop in the first weeks of pregnancy, it's often considered to be "better safe than sorry".
