That's is so great, you have a smart little girl. I would like to know how you got her interested in reading as well, neither one of my boys is really into it. William is in 2nd grade & his reading is below grade level, but they have him in a program at school to help with that, it's not Sp Ed, but a good program, it really seems to be helping. Chandler is in Kindergarten & he is just now getting into books, he has been taking them to school, so maybe I can do something to get him into reading more.

How excited for you two and your kids honor rolls and the AR program too. LOL Ya kids do come up with some pretty wacky stuff some times LOL. To answer your questions Saddie I didnt use anything special to help her to read, we did get some easy learning books like dick and Jane, stuff like that. It helps that she is in K too. The first step we took was letter recognition and sounds. once they have that down patients patients patients LOL. IT helped also that my DD wanted to learn how to read so she was motivated.

Re: Can I brag about my DD :0) LOL
Thank you Lynne , well she just kinda fell into the love of reading herself she was interested over the summer but we couldnt quiet complete the goal of her reading till a few weeks ago I think what pushed her was the fact that they got library time but only the kids who could read could check the books out LOL so she wanted to bring a book home so she started actually trying to sound out the words instead of guessing and bam LOL. We just started with the simple books DIck and Jane are some awesome books to read with if you can find any. As for your other son thats not interested in reading has he tried checking out books from the library dealing with things he is interested in my nephew is in the 2nd grade and was below level than he started getting books about dragsters LOL he loves racing and he picked up quick. She has a leap pad but I must say she has no intrest in it at all LOL, we tried that at first it didnt really help her , she just liked playing the games on it. Before they can learn they just gotta know what all capital and lower case letters are and what sounds than you get that tricky stuff you have to teach them silent letters, long and shart Is, Sh , ch , th , ing etc.. . It also helps if their Kindergarten teacher is good LOL like the no kid left behind program just started here in TX so they are teaching more to our kids, I looked at her report card and all the things she is supposed to learn this year I was like OMG LOL. RIght now she is learning the sight words, so that helps with reading too. Like , I , Me, you, have, like etc.. I was frustrated this summer with trying LOL cause she wanted to read but she didnt want to sound it out so I quit for a while I am not good to her if I am frustrated and we picked it back up when she came home from school the 2nd week and said she wanted to read so she could bring a book home LOL we would do 1 book a night sometimes 2 and now she sits and does it by herself she may get stuck on a word or two I help her sound it out. and then she has to go back and re read the sentence again from begining to end. She still has problems with the tricky words like light etc..

Re: Can I brag about my DD :0) LOL
Elizabeth ~ He has been checking book out from the library about cars, which he has always been into. Like I know he can read, but it seems when he's being tested, he screws up. We are trying to find things that interest him. With my K'er, we are still working on the letter recognition & sounds, they didn't start teaching them this in Pre K until 2 or 3 mo before school got out. So he is a little off, but we have been doing flash cards to help. Our school system has had the no kid left behind for a few years. I got so mad at his teacher. I went for his conference on Wed & I was not happy. She was showing me a test that he had done, it was matching upper & lower case letters with their mates. She's checking off the ones he got right, but missed 6 of them. I said, "So he only got 6 out of 26, well, what about these ones?" There were 6 more that she missed, I had to point them out to her.
