Default IUD issues anyone??

Well to make a long story short I went in today to get the IUD out cause of issues w/ it and because we want to TTC and the doc says it is missing! My SO felt it 2 days ago so I know its still there, but the doc says I need an u/s to find it and then a possible surgery. He also says I may have an infection. He gave me no meds and scheduled me for an u/s in 2 weeks!! Helloooo?? I work in the medical field and this is craziness!! I called around for a second opinion, I mean helloo if I have an infection I should be treated ASAP! Especially if it is something that could harm me, or my chances of having another baby. Anyways I have another apt tomorrow with a different clinic for a second opinion and hopefully some better care. I should have stuck with going to a woman doc, they are so much more helpfull (my opinion) and they spend more time with their patients. This guy spent 30 seconds with me and then shipped me out. Anyways, I am super frusterated and upset with this. Has anyone else had a problem like this?? I would love to talk with others who have had similar issues.

Default Re: IUD issues anyone??

Ok I had issues with my IUD (mirena) that I got put in at 6 weeks pp. I spotted for about 2 months after insertion, and then it was ok until about August of last year (when my son was 1 year, 2 months old). I was spotting constantly, and was always having to wear a pantyliner.

I went in to get it removed (and put on the pill instead) and my OB told me that she couldn't find the strings to pull it out.. Well I KNEW that it was in there, but it was way up at the opening of my cervix, cause I had checked it just the day before. I did NOT want to have to go back again, and miss more work, because of this. I asked her to please try again, and told her that I had felt the strings just inside the opening of my cervix the day before. She agreed, and sure enough, there they were, and she pulled it out!!

I seriously wouldn't worry about any "surgery" per se. They may have to go inside your cervix a bit to retrieve the strings, but I wouldn't worry, it wasn't painful at all for me!

HTH!!

Tessa

Thanks for your response! Its a relief that someone else had the same issue. I did go back to the doc (a different one this time) and she could not find it either. Sooo... I definatly have to have an u/s, but this doc got me one this week instead of having to wait 2.5 weeks. So I have to go in on Tuesday and I am just hoping they can find it and get it out!
