Default Almost 26 weeks pregnant, still breastfeeding 21 month old...

I'm a firm believer in child led weaning. I figured that since becoming pregnant, he would wean on his own. Nope, he's nursing just as much as before. I'm not going to force him to wean, instead I'm trying to become prepared to tandem nurse. It's not something I've really given a whole lot of thought about. I always knew it could be a possibility, but as the weeks go by, I realize it's more of just a possibility. Does anybody have any advice for me? How do I make sure the new baby gets what he/she needs?

I wish I had any advise, I am going to be in the same boat as you. I thought he would wean when I got pregnant. However, the opposite happened, he wants to bf more! At least I got him to stop at night. I imagine I will be tandem nursing as well. I looked up information on kellymom.com they had some great information.

I am still tandem nursing my 2 sons who are currently 3 &1/2 and 20 mos old. My oldest son was no where near ready to wean so I just kept nursing! Once ds #2 was here, I would nurse him first on the fullest side and nurse ds #1 on the other side. I was very fortunate in that I never had any supply issues. I truly believe that that tandem nursing helps out soooo much with any sibling rivalry. It just creates an incredible bond between your children. So many times my sons would hold hands while nursing (although now we have wrestling matches while nursing, too!!) If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask me!!

my ds weaned himself while i was pregnant (a combo of hormonal reduction of milk supply, plus almost losing my hubby when he stung by bees wiped out what was left of my milk). ds resumed nursing when there was a fresh supply of milk though, and they too held hands while nursing. he weaned for good at just over 5 yrs old (now 8.5), and dd is still nursing.

la leche league and a friend who had tandem nursed prior (as well as my wonderful dh) were my biggest supporters and sources of information. kellymom's site is wonderful too.
