Default HELP!!!! When to start counting my cycle??

Hi to the Board - and many thanks in advance to any help!

so here is my story, I went off the pill March 19th for knee surgery. At that time I had about 1 1/2 weeks left in cycle. I got my first bleeding March 23rd (I am assuming from going off the pill) it was heavy and lasted for about 4 days - since it was so close to the time I should have been on my period anyway, I thought then that I would not get another period until the next cycle - boy was I wrong!!!!. I then got another period on April 5th, very heavy and again lasted for about 4-5 days. I then started spotting again around April 13th, (ugh.....I was totally over it by then btw - enough is enough!) the spotting was consistent and increased everyday to full heavy bleeding by the 17th which lasted for another 2 days and ended on the 19th. All together, it made for a 6 day period. I have not had any spotting or bleeding since (thank God!) I am now thinking that since the period beginning the 13th would have been about the right time for my period if you start it from the first bleeding (4 weeks since discontinuing the pill for surgery) that I should start counting my cycle from the spotting that began at that time?? Any input? It has been a bit of a wild time coming off the pill and would like to have some idea when to start counting my cycle days. I have always been really regular (like a calendar) both on and off the pill. Just trying to figure out when I might ovulate and how long my cycles are going to be as we are now TTC! It is now the 24th, so counting from the 13th I would be in my ovulation window. I am just wondering if that is when I should start tracking it from? We have been doing the BD everyday anyway! Does anyone have any input here??? Thanks Sara

Hi! Welcome to the boards! I would start with April 13th as the beginning. How long were you on the pill for? It might take a couple months for your body to regulate coming off of the pill for you to know how long your cycle is. Good luck TTC!!!

If you go over to Cycle Buddies, it's more active and the ladies are sooo knowledgeable about everything!!

Hello!!

I wish I could help, but I my situation is kinda the same. I stopped BCP on March 8th and just had my period about a week and a half before, a few days after stopping BCP I got another period. The next period I had was about 32 days after the period I had after stopping BCP, so I would probably go off the most recent. At least that is what happened in my case.

Good Luck!!

I had a rough time coming off the pill too.

I took my last pill on April 28, 2007. It was really rough, especially the hormones. I have had AWFUL PMS and bad skin ever since

My doctor told me that it can take some women 3-6 months to begin to be "normal" again after the pill.

That was pretty true for me. Before the pill (and of course while on the pill) my cycles were like yours, clockwork. I would say that my got back to normal within about 5 months.

Even still I'll have cycles that are 1-2 days shorter or longer than usual.

Hope that was some help!
