Default Weaning... Help please!!

I am to the point where I have so much milk stored in my freezer that it is ridiculous for me to keep pumping. I just can't seem to let it go. About a month ago I had decided to stop and that lasted all of 8 hours. Ethan will be 11 months old tomorrow and I probably have 3 months worth of milk saved up. I started yesterday - I pumped in the morning when I got up and then I skipped my normal 3 p.m. pumping. I was so sore that I pumped at 9 p.m. and overflowed the 10 oz. bottle on each side! I think I ended up pumping 26 oz. last night at 9 p.m. I haven't pumped yet this morning and I am doing okay so far.

What is the best idea? To take "a little off the top" when I get too full and sore? Stop cold turkey?

My boobs have never quite followed the norm - When I pump 3x per day, I get at least 50-60 oz. of milk. I tried to cut out 2 pumpings a long time ago (which I did) and my body just saves the milk and gives it to me the next feeding. That is why I'm afraid if I drain at night and in the morning it will be like last night and overflow. I'll have to use 2 10oz bottles on each side and it will get me nowhere near stopping....

Any advice would be helpful! THANKS!!

When I temporarily decided to give up with BFing (yea, temporarily >.>), I just took a 'little off the top' and massaged the sore area in hopes that THAT was the spot where the milk was coming from. It took not even one day before my supply plummeted. I stopped eating oatmeal that day too (fluid intake dropped but that wasn't intentional), and am wondering if that was a factor in it.

Definitely wouldn't drain them, because that just...makes them need a refill xD If you pump just a little to keep comfy without turning on a letdown, it should work.

And three months of milk?! Pass some here please! D:

OT: I was absolutely amazed, even now trying to build the supply back, it takes about a full 20 hours for them to be full enough to feed to lil man, and then he still wants a little extra.

maybe gradually decrease the amount of time you pump. instead of pumping til emtpy, pump 10 min for a week, then 9 min for a week, etc, and start streching out the time btw pumping by small intervals as if your baby was weaning.

there must be some stuff on line about this, ppl who have had the same issues.

goodluck!

if you typically pump 3 X a day for 20 minutes each time, decrease by a minute each time down to 10 minutes, then keep at 10 minutes for a few days, then pick one session, and drop a minute from that session every day for 10 days, then keep 2 pumps a day for a few days, then pick another and gradulally decrease your time that way. if you keep haveing too much milk, you cna drink mint tea, and wear cabbage in your bra, as well. if you decrease too fast, you're at risk for plugged ducts and mastitis, so make sure to wait a few days between dropping another one.

You've gotten some excellent advise. I just wanted to suggest sudafed. It really dries you up.
