I have a pump question....
Hi ladies!!
I am a mom of an almost 11 month old, and due to have #2 in Sept. I breastfed DD and pumped while at work until I lost my supply around the time she turned 9 mos (I assume due to this pregnancy since that was the only change). I had the Medela Pump In Style, but a friend of mine let me borrow the Pump In Style Advanced for this baby and I was wondering who has used both and if the Advanced is a lot better? I really hope to go a whole year at least with this baby since I did not want to stop with DD when I had to. I was only pumping 1 ounce for 2 sessions toward the end of my breastfeeding with DD, and it was so frustrating. So, is the Advanced better at getting the milk out?
TIA for your opinions!! I am so looking forward to breastfeeding again. It was an amazing experience.

Re: I have a pump question....
I'm glad I checked in here today. I personally have used both. I LOVE my PISA, and I am getting more milk. BUT, I have to put it in context. This time around, I got the PISA and I started pumping with it when DS#2 was around 6 weeks old. I was already on Reglan to increase my supply since he wasn't gaining weight appropriately. And I added the Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle. And I think since I started so early pumping my body got used to letting down on the pump and not necessarily needing my son to get the letdown.
When I pumped before, I would bring home around 6 oz for an eight hour shift pumping 3 times (an ounce a side a pump). This time, I have been bringing home 10 oz min. for a six hour shift with only 2 pumps. So I can't positively say that it was the pump, but since I spent lots of $$ on it, I'd like to think it was. But the only difference b/t the 2 pumps is the fancy letdown mode, and it does seem to help. I am probably getting one more letdown per 20 min pump than I used to on the old pump.
good luck, and if you have any more ?'s about the 2, I'd suggest PM'ing me because I haven't been checking in here too often, but I will now that I'm back to work and have access to a computer better.

Re: I have a pump question....
I use the Ameda Purely Yours, so I can't answer your question.... just wanted to wish you luck! I wish I could increase my supply. My baby is still having about 4oz of formula some days (about 4-5 days per week).

Re: I have a pump question....
I use the PISA and I am getting great results. When I first started back to work I was using a horrible on something that started with an L. Anyway I bought the PIS Advanced and it is great! I only work 8 hours and pump 2 times and I bring home 14 oz. witch is more than my baby drinks while I am at work. She is now almost 8 months and it is still working great!

Wow! Have you always brought home that much?
I only bring home 7-8oz each day, but my baby is only 10 weeks old. That combined with a morning and bedtime pump at home (after nursings, so I only get 1-1.5oz at each of those) is enough for the daycare... but just enough. I never get ahead.

Re: I have a pump question....
I have used both as well. I pumped for a year with DS using the Original. I probably averaged 12 oz pumping 3x per day. Now with my DD, I used the same PIS Original for 6+ months until it died. I pump 3x per day and I got 14-20 oz. When that one died, I got the Advanced. I haven't noticed a change in the amount of milk I get between the two. She was sick a couple of weeks back and wasn't nursing much, so my supply took a bit of a hit, but she's also 8 mos now, and eating more and more food. I still get plenty of milk for her. I got 8 oz at one session this AM. I have a much better supply this time around than I had with DS. I had a hard time getting ahead with him. I am waaaaaaaaay ahead of DD. Good luck!
