Icon5 How do you....

Keep your pump parts clean??

I have a new PISA and I can't seem to keep the middle part (the part that the breast shield connects to on the top and the yellow thing connects to on the bottom) clean. I use the Medela wipes between pumps and use the sanitizing bag for the microwave once a week. I even put the parts in a bowl of just boiled water yesterday and they still aren't clean!!

And the yellow things, I can't seem to get the milk residue out of them either. I push the wipe all the way down into it and turn/twist it, but it just doesn't get it clean.

Any hints? I pump 3x a day at work and once in the morning (if I'm not too lazy to get out of bed, I work 3pm-11:30pm) and I really want the parts clean, but I just can't seem to get them as clean as I'd like! I had the same problem with the yellow parts when I pumped for Jailee, but since the middle part of the shield is changed from the PIS, I can't get that part clean now either.

TIA!

i used a "sponge" type nipple cleaner (was part of a bottle cleaner). you don't want to actually use a bristle-y one on it, as it could scratch it up.

the pother option i would guess is wrapping the wipe around your pinky and using it to wipe the inside of the shield.

Yeah, not quite sure why they changed the new PISA shields, because I liked the older one-it didn't get as much gunk. I'll have to look around for a sponge type of bottle cleaner, I hadn't thought of that yet. Thanks!

Yeah, if I hadn't sold the last one. I think I still have a set from before when the hospital gave me the kit, but I'll have to see if they have the same center part like this new ones I got from the PISA. The kit was a 2 part shield too, but I can't remember if the middle part had the divider like thing like the new ones do.

I wash all my parts in the dishwasher on high heat or sanitize.

I am using mostly shields from the original, but I do have a couple of the new PISA shields. I rinse with really hot water between pumps (I pump 3x per day using the same shields), but every night I put those shields in the dishwasher and use clean ones for the next day. I never use the shields for more than one day. I have 8 original shields and 2 advanced, so I can pump for a week and run the dishwasher on Saturday.

Thanks ladies. I guess I'll have to start running the dishwasher every night, I've tried runing them through the hot water tap (boiling water tap) we have at work, but that didn't seem to help, but I'll see. I only have 2 sets of shields, so I guess I could run the dishwasher every other day. That might work better.

Thanks!
