Default Help! Sore Nipples!

Ive been exclusevly pumping for 3 (almost 4) weeks now. I had the "normal" pain in the first few days, and then it went away. In the past couple of days, my nipples are sore! They hurt for the first two minutes of pumping (i start on low suction) and then the pain subsides and im able to turn up the suction pain free. Once im done my 20 minutes, my nipples hurt! and they are sensitive to touch. I am using Lanolin, i have let them air dry with breast milk, and im trying to make sure my nipple stays centerd in the flange (tho it seems that they "slip" to the side and i have to reposition now and then). My supply is still good, and i dont think my nipples are cracked (would it be obvious?)

The only thing i can find is thrush, but using google the only info they give seems to be for breast feeding, not pumping.

If it is thrush, can it still be passed on to the baby, even tho she is not at the breast? My nipples dont seem any more pink then normal either, and since the pain subsides after a couple minutes pumping, i am reluctent to think thrush. However, i did just finsih a course of antibiotics, and i do need to use breast pads when im out as i will still leak.

Ok, i think thats a lot of information!

Thanks in Advance!!

Melissa

yes, baby can still get thrush, even if not feeding directly at breast, and you won;'t necessarily "see" proof of it.

judi's suggetsiopn of larger shields may help, as would more frequent pumping for shorter periods of time. how often ar eyou pumping right now?

The larger horns helped with sore nips when I pumped. When I was in the Hospital the Lactation Nurse had told me whhen my nipples were really sore to put some salt in a cup and add warm water, soak a gauze pad in it then put it on your nipples, it made me feel so much better!
