Default Yeast!!!

I need a little help with my nips!

At the hospital my nipples got damaged, and cracked. I am pretty sure that I have a yeast infection in my nipples and also the breast. I am currently taking fluconazole and I am on day 8 today and the girls are getting the Nystatin. I am also using "All Purpose Nipple Cream". My nipples are still burning and RED. I am going to try the Violet today to see if that helps too.

I guess my question is...shouldn't I be feeling better?

I am relatively sure that I am getting them latched on properly now...as of about 2 wks ago we got it. But as I get them latched it is the worst pain ever, then it is better once the milk starts flowing. My nips are still red and burn like the crazy.

my other fear is that it could be Nipple Dermatitis...? Is that a possibility?

Hi Patty!!

I'm sorry that your having this issue. The violet would certainly make things better but it might take up to 3 treatements to do it. At least that is what happened to me. Now I have very purple nips from all the cracks! You might be having a reaction to the meds or to lanilon. Any hystory there with a reaction? Try putting some of the nipple cream on the under part of your arm and see if you break out. If you do STOP using it and call your Dr. I also used some gel breast pads which I could put in the fridge nad get really cold. That certainly helpped me. I also used Laniosh over anything else and let a tube in the fridge as well.

Are you rinsing you breast after each feeding?

Are you using soap?

Are the girls getting the drops in thier mouth prior to feeding?

Also try putting some of the drops on you breats and letting it dry.

I hope it gets better. Hang in there!!

Are you rinsing you breast after each feeding?ALMOST, just not the middle of the night feeds...too sleepy...

Are you using soap?NO!!! The only thing I rinse them with is vinegar and water and salt and water.

Are the girls getting the drops in their mouth prior to feeding?Yes, They are not showing any signs what so ever, but I am treating them too cause they could still have it.

Also try putting some of the drops on you breats and letting it dry.Ive done this a few times, I will continue.

Correction...I am taking (and on the 8th day of 14) Diflucin, the name I put down there is the generic...

What is Laniosh? I will try google...

Thanks for all your help!!!

patty..congrats on your babies!!

my little girl was born on 10/22/07, and i've had the same problems as you. i feel your pain! it sounds like you are doing all the right things. unfortunately, much of it is trial and error, there is no magic pill...sadly. things got so bad for me i quit for a week and then had a huge change of heart and now am taking meds to re-lactate. we are down to 3 bottles of formula a day and the rest from me! i still have cracks, one huge one on each nip, but the yeast is gone and the pain is less...just a little less...each day. it's so worth it to keep trying.

hang in there. you aren't alone!

apno is better than lansinoh, during a yeast/thrush problem is the one time that i never recommend using it.

make sure to keep you nipples as dry as possible, expose them a tiny bit of sunlight if possible (how well do you like your neighbors? )keep on using the diflucan, i'd ditch the nystatin, as it is pretty worthless to start with. gentian violet is definately better, but it seems you already know, you won't wanna schedule professional pics for the duration of treatment and a few days afterwards, as it stains very purple.

are you using vinegar in your rinse (washing machine) also? if not,. i'd suggest doing so.

also, the red/itchy/sore etc nipples is a sign of thrush, but pain that goes away during the feed is not, that sounds like the latch still may need a little work, either that, or it may be the way you are feeling yoru letdown.

hope you feel better asap! do you have a good (local) lc that can evaluate your latch? i'm good, but i cna' tdo much via computer, lol.

I heard that from another mom that a vinger wash might not be diluted enough and can casue burning?? Who knows, but the idea of sunning your boobs is great! :smack forgot about that! Yeast is killed by sunlight............and you can also microwave your breast pads if your using cloth!

Thanks for all the help guys!!! after 7 wks of many different things...Thinking it was yeast then thinking it was a bacterial infection etc, I went to a dermatologist and comes to find out it was eczema! After about 2 aplications of the ointment she prescribed my nips felt better! The annoying thing is that all the books and websites on bf-ing mention NOTHING about eczema!

Anyway, thank you all! I am so happy my nipples feel better!
