Default Worried about decrease in milk

My daughter is 3 months and 2 weeks, and I'm getting worried that I'm not expressing a good amount of milk for her. She seems to always be hungry. When I pump I'll get 1/2 an ounce on my left side and about 1 1/2 on the right. I'm not even leaking milk...is that normal?? I don't know what to do. I had to give her 4 ounces of formula yesterday and she chugged it down. I feel so bad, I don't want to start giving her formula. I bf my son up until this time w/him as well. I was hoping to go longer w/her. Any advice???

It's not unusual for babies this age to eat every 1-2 hrs. They're getting plenty. The more you nurse and empty your breast, the more you'll make. I would definitely stop supplementing right now. This is only going to cause problems with your supply, not make it better. If you're still concerned about your supply and increasing it, then you can definitely pump.

The rule is the more you empty your breast, the more your supply will increase. Don't doubt yourself on this. It will get better . I know it feels like they're eating all the time but this will help your supply in the long run.

You can't go by the amount you pump as an indicator of how muchmilk you do or do not have. A baby is a much better sucker than any pump will ever be. Also, it is very common and easy for a BF baby to take in large amounts of BM or formula(whatever is in a bottle) over how much they would take in just from nursing. It is much easier for them to get the liquid out of the bottle(even on the slowest of slow flow nipples) over what they have to do to get the milk from mommy.

Are you working? Is that why you are pumping and bottle feeding?

That started happening to me about 6days ago..all I did was start pumping immediately after each nursing session w/ds...this told my body to kick up the production..and already yesterday I started to leak and get engorged again..which made me feel a LOT better...hth ..good luck

Thanks all! I pump only when we go out, I'm a little insecure of bf in public. I actually found a good link on my DIM board that helpled out as well...I'll try to get the link and post it here.
