Icon9 When does baby feed at a more regular interval?

My baby is currently 3 weeks old and i'm doing total BF. She is undergoing wat i think is a growth spurt and nursing almost 1hourly interval. I feel like a walking milk machine and she's like permanently attached to my breast! Would like to ask experienced moms how and when do babies start to have a longer and more regular feeding interval? I cannot imagine not having a life outside of feeding her. Would still like to spend couple time (going for dinner/movies) with hubby instead of rushing home to feed her all the time. Pls help!! I'm so depressed now thinking of how i couldnt go anywhere without rushing back for feeding...i didnt wan to intro bottle feeding yet cos i read it'll affect my supply.

Aw, mommy! I know how it feels to have that baby attached what seems like 24/7. It does stop, but growth spurts are always going to be tough. Remember, her stomach is about the size of her little fist so it doesn't take very long for it to empty right now. kellymom.com :: Nursing your newborn -— what to expect in the early weeks about weeks 2-6 gives you some good guidelines about newborns nursing.

What you are feeling is perfectly normal. My husband jokes that I am a mobile feeding device since all I seem to do is nurse You can probably introduce a bottle here and there in a couple of weeks without too many problems as long as your baby is nursing well. One bottle of EBM here and there shouldn't hurt your nursing relationship, follow the baby's cues and everything should be fine.

Congratulations on your new little one!

pretty much everythign kara said.

this too shall pass, and they ar eonly this little and needy for such a short time. you can do it mama. just a few more weeks and you'll see she starts to space out her feedings a bit.

as for couple time. could you have couple time at hom? put a blanket on the floor, light some candles, and have a picnic, etc. there will be lots of time for going out when the little one is older. :hug

You are still in a time when postpartum depression can be a problem. If you continue to be depressed about the demands of the baby, please see your medical professional for an evaluation. I second all that has been said about the demands of the baby being normal. Average number of feeds a day is a better marker of what is going on. Frequency changes over 24 hours. 8-12 is average and some babies a few more. If it is more than that, she should have an evaluation for wt gain. She should be giving you 6-8 poopy diapers/24 hours, you should feel fullness if she ever goes more that 2.5 hours (maybe not in late afternoon/evening) She should be gaining 4-8 oz /week. You might try breast compressions to get the last little bit into her. If you do go out without her, be sure you take care of yourself. She can't go long without eating, AND you can't go long without expressing, either nursing or pumping.
Good luck to you, you are doing a great job for both baby and hubbie. The thoughts mean a lot to him.
