My SIL and brother had a baby girl on October 8, they live in Miami and I live in WI, so I haven't been able to meet her yet, but have been in almost daily contact with my brother.
A week after the baby came home she started supplementing with formula because the baby "wanted to eat more and was not getting full with bm alone", I told him (I haven't spoken to her, we are not close) that is not true, she wants, and needs, to keep suckling, that is normal and has nothing to do with being hungry, just let her keep nursing until she wants". God those first weeks Luky used to nurse non stop, is normal!!! Well my advice was not appreciated and basically told me to can it and that I had no idea what I was talking about, I have only nursed two kids, one that is 17 months and still going, but what do I know.
So today he calls me, the kid had a bloody poop a few days ago, the "doctor" (stupid f'ing moron) told them that for sure my SIL ate some dairy that gave the kid allergies, mind you that she has been on milk based formula since two weeks old to supplement, and to stop nursing for 10 days!!!!!!!
Of course now my SIL stopped nursing altogether and they are buying a super duper expensive formula, oh yeah the idiot doctor told them that it could be either dairy or soy so they couldn't use either one.
I bit my tongue because I don't want to get in a fight with them, but my heart hurts for my sweet little niece
