Icon5 TMI- will this affect bf'ing?

Baby is due end of November and I all of a sudden have a skin tag on my nipple. I'm trying to figure out what will happen with it there and breastfeeding? Will it come off (painfully?)? Or will it just be there and not make any difference?

Thanks!!

Beth

It won't affect nursing at all, but I don't know what will happen to it. I've gotten a couple of skin tags that hung around but they don't seem to have much sensation. IIRC, the ones I got last time did go away, but none of them were on my nipple. A friend of mine told her her aunt would get rid of her skin tags by tying a thread around it, but I'm not sure I'd want to try it!

Yikes, that thread idea sends chills down my spine, Kara! (Much like Vivian biting you earlier!) Fingers crossed that it doesn't cause any trouble.

i've heard the same thing about tying thread around them, but i havent been brave ebough to try it yet, lol.

i also know someone who just cuts them off with nail clippers.

i'd tie thread around it before doing that

i don't think it should interfere with nursing, but you may find that if it stays around, your lil one ants to play with it... which could be kinda different.

I had one while I was pregnant too. I showed it to my dermatologist on my annual full body skin cancer screening. She suggested removing it before delivery. Her thought process was that it would have to be watched carefully for any changes, skin cancer concerns, and if there were any changes it would have to be removed at that time. She suggested it was better to remove it before delivery, so it would have time to heal well before breastfeeding, especially since I plan to breastfeed on an extended basis. It would be worse to take it off later when that nipple was "in use." She removed it in her office via scalpel. I expected the worst but was surprised and relieved when it was gone in under 30 seconds and with minimal discomfort.
