Icon5 Starting Solids

Rachael is now 6 months old and we will start some solids. I am nervous about offering her too much since my son LOVED them and it hurt our nursing (that and other things, but we stuck with it for a year). Anyway, does anyone have any information on about how many ounces of SOLID food a six month old should have per day? I only have been offering her one thing at lunch time per day and she is happy, so no more than that for now. I am pretty big on making nursing come first and be her number one source for food. Just curious! Thanks for your input ladies!

Here is a great little chart for starting solids:

Essentially, solids are in addition to breastmilk, and not a replacement until after the first year. It sounds like you're doing fine, once a day is plenty for right now.

Once a day is perfectly fine. I do feed Addi twice a day now (since 7 mos or so) but we had a period after 6 mos that she quit eating solids all together and I didnt sweat it. She still doesn't eat much at each feeding.

once a day (or less) (about a tablesppon for each yr of life iirc) is PLENTY of solids for a nursling. as long as you are nursing first and then offering a little bit of solids, that is fine. solids are just for learning/practicing how to eat, not for actual nutrition at this early

so glad to hear this becuase i'm very inconsistent with his feedings. i was just worrying about, some days are so busy! he prefers nursing to everything, a total boobie baby.
