Icon5 speed nursers? (x-post)

I have posted before about Pierce nursing very quickly. I want to make sure he is getting enough hindmilk. He seriously nurses for 5-10 minutes per feeding and that's it. My question is, should I try to keep him on one side during a feeding to make sure he gets enough hindmilk? He starts pulling of and playing on one side after about 3-5 minutes so I always burp him and switch sides. Sometimes he takes it and sometimes he doesn't. Should I burp him and put him back to the same side before offering the second? Or should I just keep reoffering the same side?

I too have a speed nurser and what I do is that once he pulls off I burp him and then try to put him back on the same side before switching sides. If he refuses that same side again then I switch him. He usually just nurses on one side per feeding during the day and then at night will fill up with both sides.

Forgot to add that if he is having enough bowel movements and it is yellow in color then he should be doing fine.

I think consulting your doctor will be a good option

Dani's a speed-nurser too.....I've met several BF babies that can get the job done in 5min or so after the nursing thing is down pat.....

You know they're getting enough hing-milk by the poop: bright yellow & full of seeds is perfect......they "seeds" are actually globules of undigested fat from the rich hindmilk. If the baby is gorging on foremilk only, the poop won't be seedy and can even lean towards a greeny color.

I know Dani's getting pleanty of hindmilk because she's very seedy....even though she rarely takes longer than 5 min on a side!

Be thankful it doesn't take you long to give your son the nutrients he needs - you could be stuck in one place for 1/2 hr at a time instead!
