Default re-warming thawed breastmilk

i guess its about time i started joining this board. Mikey has been exclusively breastfed since his birth in Dec, and now i have food poisoning for 4 days straight, so i have to give him the bottle with thawed breastmilk. Is it ok to warm it, and if he doesn't finish it, stash it back in the fridge to serve again in a couple hours? thank you!

and to the board! There are a ton of smart women here with great advice

Rewarming it once should be fine:
kellymom.com :: Links: Breastmilk Storage & Handling has some good guidelines.

Why do you need to used stored milk? Is it because your supply is low? Just asking, because food poisoning doesn't mean you have to pump and dump. The bacteria from the food stays in the gastrointestinal tract and doesn't enter the breast milk unless it has gone septic and enters your bloodstream, in which case you'd probably be in the hospital.

Kellymom again:
Quote:
If mom has food poisoning, breastfeeding should continue. As long as the symptoms are confined to the gastrointestinal tract (vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps), breastfeeding should continue without interruption as there is no risk to the baby. This is the case with most occurences of food poisoning. If the food poisoning progresses to septicemia, meaning the bacteria has passed into mom's bloodstream (mom would most likely be hospitalized)...
I feel for you! My DH and I both got a pretty nasty case of food poisoning when Vivian was about 6mos old. We had to put her on our bed between us to keep her from crawling off it, and throw her in the pack n play when we were both, um, "occupied". It was pure he!!. It forever ruined the pack n play for her

Drink as much fluid as you can. it won't last forever!

everythign kara said. make sure though that if it isn't used, you don't keep tryign to reuse it., milk that has been frozen doesn't ahve the same antibacterial etc powers that fresh milk does.

after 30 hrs of struggle, Mikey finally had a good feeding- 7oz. he would only do 2 at a time until now, and with tears.

the anitbiotics appear to be working on me so i'm finally on the mend, and pumping for 5 days.
one thing that really helped was starting with a little formula in breastmilk, and increasing it until i ran out of frozen breast milk and now he's on straight formula without hating it anymore,

this is how it can happen-
DH turned off the freezer 2 weeks ago and forgot to plug it back in. Then he left for work for his 2 week hitch (800 mls away).
so even though i've had vomit diarrhea black stool nausea achey swollen glands- i've kept eating- thinking Mikey needs the nutrition from my breastmilk. i did not know all the food was bad and i just kept getting sicker. it feels like a wolverine is in my tummy. i just figured it out tonight when i staggered out to get another frozen meal to shove in the microwave (cause i'm too sick to prepare real food) and i noticed a puddle dripping out of the freezer on the floor.
well i finally was in enough pain to go to the clinic. the doc said my intestines are bleeding and i have severe dysentery. i thought it was challenging to b/f while the IV was in, but now am bumming- they said i have to quit b/f + take antibiotics for 5 days. i'm at home with a heperin lock in my arm trying to get Mikey to take the bottle again. that is the hard part. he hates the bottle unless he's starved. i am not allowed to eat food until Monday morning, so we're both starved. the good news is he doesn't have the food posioning. thanx for your support, i don't feel quite as alone.

hey mama, that really sucks, but i'm glad that you're on the mend.

just out of curiosity, what is the antibiotic that you're on? many doctors aren't aware of the fact that MOST antibiotics are safe to take while breastfeeding.

Cipro, but i had looked it up & its one of the bad ones.i miss b/f so much i've decided to quit the antibiotic early. i'm afraid that pumping isn't enough/i don't want to dry up. so hopefully Wed afternoon we will be attached again
