Default plugged milk duct

Hi all. My baby is just about 13 months and I am in the process of weaning her to whole milk.

I was nursing around 5 or 6am, before nap #1 and nap #2 and pumping at night for her bedtime bottle daily.

I have SLOWLY decreased the BM in her evening bottle and replaced it with whole milk. I am now down to 1 1/2 ounces of bm and 5 of whole milk (over the last month+ I have been doing this transition). Additionally, two weeks ago I came downw with a stomach bug that took 5 days to recover from and did a number on my supply. After that instead of relactating fully, I started a small bottle of whole milk before nap#2 followed by a short nursing session. That bottle is now at 5 ounces.

So now I am nursing early am, nap #1, after a 5 ounce bottle for a few minutes for nap #2 and pumping about 2 - 3 ounces at night (down from 6ounces).

I have had recurrent plugged ducts on my right side and sure enough when I cut down on pumping to 2 ounces I got another one.

So my question is what do I do about this painful lump? In the past I have soaked it, long hot shower, drank lots of water, pumped extra and nursed extra. But I do not want to pump or nurse more as I am trying to cut down to once a day nursing. So what are my options to clear the plugged duct and prevent mastitis?

Thanks for your help!

the only remedies i know are to get the milk out by using massage, heat and lots of pumping or nursing...

you may just hafta increase your pumping for a few days, and when you have the plug resolved just re-wean yourself off of pumping. just make sure to take it EXTRA SLOWLY.

you also may find taking a lecithin supplement helpful.

It's good to know that my original methods were the right things to do! It is staying hydrated and well rested that always get me...

The clog seems to be much better. Lizzie nursed a little more the last couple of days though my pumping output has not increased. Thanks for your help!
