This is a discussion on Periods, how soon after birth within the Breastfeeding forums, part of the Feeding Baby category; I am 7 wks pp and started bleeding today. It has been over 4 wks since I stopped from delivery ...
I am 7 wks pp and started bleeding today. It has been over 4 wks since I stopped from delivery and I am going to be miffed if it is AF.
I thought since I was breastfeeding that AF wouldnt be around for some time but it started last night and so I am asking here if it is normal for it to return this fast?
I have heard of mom's getting their 'af's 4 wks after the pp bleeding has stopped & some pp mom's had 6 wks of bleeding I was one of the 6 wk pp bleeding mom's but didn't get my first pp af until my son was 2 yrs and 3 months I was a 'bit shocked it took so long to come back ' but even though you may have got your first af right away you may skip a month or more to get it again or it may be regular i get my af regularly.
I can not answer why some mom's get pp af right away and some won't get til after the kid is one or longer. I was a 'on demand nurser' he nurse whenever he wanted too

Sorry if AF is rearing her ugly head! I've been nursing for 15 mos and still no sign of her. Do you have baby on a "schedule"? Do you give a bottle feeding consistently? Those could trigger her early. If you are nursing on demand then you might be one of the unlucky who get her back quickly.

what kenda said- i got it back real early with both of mine, but with them both of mine they were not exclusively breastfed despite being exclusively breastMILK fed. ds started getting pumped milk in a bottle in the hospital and didn't actually nurse until he was almost 6 months and i had emergent surgery which required dd to get "mom's takeout" instead of "eating at mom's".
if the lil one takes a pacifier, or a bottle, or is sleeping longer at nighttimes already for whatever reason, you'll likely get af back sooner than a mama who uses no artificial nipples and doesn't impose a artificial schedule on the baby.
I got AF back at 5 months PP both times, and I exclusivley breastfeed with no artificial nipples or supplementation. Vivian would never take an artificial nipple, and Irene has had a total of 5 bottles of EBM. I really wish I was one of those who goes a long time without that witch!

i thought i had af at 6weeks but it really wasnt af thankfully
i am now on the mini pill. i plan on bf'ing untill 6 months but i may go longer...i only plan on taking the mini pill for another 3...i have 3 more packs and im not reordering them. if i continue to bf im just going to hope that keeps us from having #2 but if i do stop at 6 months i have actual bc pills i will start to prevent # 2.
make sence ?

michelle, bf does not *typically* work well for birth control if not breasfteeding *exclusively*. for more info, look up the LAM (lactaion amenhorrhea method) at kellymom and lll.
