Default New Here

Hey! My Son is a little over 4 weeks. My older Son wasunable to nurse because he was born with a cleft palate so I pumped for 8 months with him.

Kelan lost some weight in the Hospital because he was refusing to latch after doing great for a couple of days. We used the nipple shield and I eventually weaned him off that and got him on the breast and got him back up to his birthweight. The Ped said since he is gaining weight well and his jaundice is gone that if he wants to sleep longer between nursings he could. He pees and poops a lot so I know he is nursing well. During the day he doesn't go longer than 3 hours between nursing sessions and he actually cluster feeds most mornings until noon. The past 2 nights he has slept 6 hours. I wake him at that point to eat and he only normally finishes 1 breast and falls back to sleep. Then when we wake up for the day he will take both breasts. Is this okay? Could he not need to eat that often this early or is he just eating enough during the day so that he can sleep that much at night?

he *could* be getting enough during the day to sleep that long at night, but it is uncommon for a baby, especially as young as yours to not nurse a bit more frequently.

be prepared to nurse more frequently for sure at least though during growth spurts,. you should have one coming soon.

Sounds like you're doing a great job to me.

I think as long as baby is growing well and having plenty of dirty diapers just try not to worry and enjoy this time together. It passes so quickly.
