DS is now 3 1/2 weeks old and we've been mostly BF'ing from the beginning. We had to do a little supplementing due to jaundice. My left side is really lacking in supply compared to the right. In the hospital they gave me a shield thingy to help pull the nipple out. Due to an accident as a child, the top 1/3 of my nipple is basically missing making it flat. DS never had a hard time latching on to it even with it like that. Now my right side is producing a lot but the left just doesn't seem to have anything. I know that baby is better at getting the milk than a pump, but when I pump I'll get about 2-2.5oz from the right and maybe 1/4oz from the left. I've tried increasing my water intake and read that eating oatmeal helps so have been doing that also. I'm offering the left side first and when he wants to comfort nurse putting him on there. Any suggestions or thought on ways I could boost the supply? I didn't nurse DS1 so this is all a new experience to me and I really want to be successful with it! TIA.
We are all lopsided with milk production.....I have heard that your dominant hand side is the side you make more on? Not sure if that is true or not?! I am sure your little guy is happy getting what he does from the left OR the right. If you are really worried about it you can try to get the supply up on that side, but more than likely I bet it will always be that way somewhat!
im there with you my right is bigger then my left. i have more tissue on my right side so it will always be a lil bigger.
but to help my left i pump it while she feeds on the right. and an hr after i feedings i pump my left side. its really helped alot good luck! i did it for about 2 weeks

silly ticker you should say "weight gained" not "weight loss"
yep I'm right there with you... my right is almost a whole cup size bigger and it produces way more than the left. I have no clue how to increase the production of just one side without lowering the production of the other
I must have been ment to be a Left hander! My over achiever boob is the left. (im right handed) But I will attest to the you can make enough in one boob to feed a baby cause I designate one boob to one baby each day and switch the next, and we have not had to suppliment...just the oppisite...oversupply.
Anyway, dont worry we are all lopsided and you will make enough fr baby.

Okay, I am so glad I decided to join you guys over here. lol. Now, I feel much less alone. At about 3 months, I got mastitis (ouch!) on the left side and though I nursed as mch as I could on that side, when it was over the left side had decreased majorly. I'd say my left breast is an a, maybe a b cup and my right is a c. (and I'm a leftie) I've been trying to even them out by offering that side more, but it doesn't seem to work so well. Luckily you can't tell when I'm dressed. Still makes plenty of milk though, thats always the side that sprays his face
I'm looking forward to sporting a bikini this summer...that should be interesting. Ha!

OMG I am sooooo lopsided, and I try to get my right to catch-up (or my L to chill out) but it just hasn't happened... In the morning I still get engorged, so I feed BOTH of them on the right and just catch what comes out on the left (anywhere from 3-8oz) and dont feed on myleft till after their morning 2 or three feeds...still L is bigger.
