Default My OB is anti booby!

So last week I went in for my 6 wk PP check up. I expressed interest in perhaps starting the minipill for BC. My DR told me that I should go ahead and just start up again on my old BC pill (OrthoTricyclen). I told him I still wanted to breast feed though and he said, "Oh well if your supply is already well established you won't have a problem. Also women on the minipill have breakthrough bleeding and you don't want that now DO YOU?" It totally appalled me! And my nurse is in the background saying, No don't take it! Go with the minipill! Needless to say I left without the BC prescription and I am now seriously considering a new dr.! I was very disappointed to say the least. It just saddens me that doctors today really aren't more BF advocates. Even my daughter's ped told me, If you need to give her formula, do it, don't beat yourself up over it. Like I was even considering it!!

Sorry that was your drs response. Sometimes I wonder what they are teaching them in med school, or maybe it is what they aren't teaching them. With the AAP and WHO recommendations the drs should at least have an idea what the right thing to do is.

sound slike your ob IS a boob.

couldn't resist the play on words.

anyways, good for you for knowing your stuff ahead of time.

you'd be surprised at how many people believe that if the dr says it that it must be true.

i had MNAY clients have problems bf because of the doctors.

of hormonal options the minipill is the best for bf mamas. if you find it starting to affect your supply, you just stop taking it. even though depo shot is the same hormone, if you find it affecting your supply, tyhere is nothign you can do about it for months. some moms can not use ANY hormonal bc while bf because of negative impact on supply.

Phooey on that OB! I would go get another one if he's not educated enough to help you do what's best for your baby. The mini pill isn't as effective as the "normal" pills, but it is better than no protection. That's probably why he didn't recommend it.

Good luck!

If you DO decide to go for a new doc, make sure this one knows full well WHY - maybe he'll wake-up, do a little reading and stop giving such bad advice.....what about all his other patients who may not know better??
