is a boob-aholic!

ok so breastfeeding is going well...but she likes to use me as a paci. i try to slip the paci between her and i and it works until she gives a lil suck. then she freaks out! so i give her the boob back and try again. she just wants to sit there with my booby in her mouth and she will suck every now and then to be sure its still there...

any tips? she is a lil colicy too so i end up giving in and letting her have the boob just to get some peace,

my mil siad that her doing this could dry up my milk...also bethany likes to cluster feed from 3-7. my milk supply seems to be fine...but just wanted to see what you all thought

That won't dry up your milk, just the opposite! Vivain was just like that, and there was nothing I could do about it. I finally just had to give in and relax, I knew that she wasn't going to be like that forever, and she needed me in that role. I am a SAHM, so she really didn't *need* to take a bottle, but it would've made some things easier.

what gave your mil that idea? <giggles> they mean well, but they really don't know what they're talking about huh?

frequent nursing and suckling helps stimulate milk supply, and a mama is a perfectly packaged pacifier no need for fake ones.

cluster feeding is also completely normal.

as far as her having colic, do you smoke? if so , can you cut back or quit?

other things are that sometimes caffeine exascarbates it, as does dairy sometimes, do youingest a lot of dairy, or caffeinated items? if no, does she get supplements of anything other than your milk? any vitamins, or artificial milk etc? if any of these is true, you may want to think about cutting back as much as possible or quitting entirely for awhile.


also, just a headsup for you, i see she is almost 6 weeks old. time for the next growth spurt .....

Addi was a total boobaholic. It will pass. If breastfeeding is important to you then you should probably just accept this phase for what it is, a phase. They do get more efficient and once the world around becomes more interesting you won't get used quite so much. Hugs, I know it's tough!

I envy you...mine would take a pasi, but they could not just hang out on the boob enen though they wanted to at that stage. I have oversupply, and if they tried to use me as a pasi they got choked on my milk.

Enjoy this time with her it will pass...

If you really need a break. Try a bunch of different kinds of binkies and you may find one she likes. But, none of them may work.

ty ladies! i was thinking " you know its not hurting her or me...so to stay sane why not just give her the boob?" but my mil kept insisting that i needed to take a break...it does seem like bethany is on my boob all day....

mom- i just recently cut dairy out of my diet about a week ago and i see a BIG change already i dont smoke or drink caffine...the past 2 nights have been crying free!

we have found that she will take the mam pacis yay

What was hard for me was figuring out if they were hungry or just needed southed. I would actually feel bad when I would put a boob in ones mouth cause I thought she was hungry and she would suck suck suck then do the the internation sign for drowning...literally but if I gave them a paci and they were hungry even when they were just a wk or so old they would litteraly throw the paci back at me! ...oh and scream!

Glad the no dairy seems to be working.

she is going 3-4 hrs now between feedings but wants to constantly nurse from 8pm-12am

I don't have my Merlin anymore. DH developed severe cat allergies so he went to live with my aunt and uncle. But their house is like cat camp and he's so happy there I almost feel guilty we had him here as long as we did. He has a girlfriend now and a whole gang of cats to hang with. I miss him terribly.

we have my sil cat too....she had an ex that was allergic, although she is no longer with him my dh has decided that the cat is forever his lol
