Default Mamabear...Motilium

Is it ok that I still take a regular dose of Motilium. The few times I've tried to quit I've always felt so deflated almost instantly and I'm just not ready to wean yet and neither is Addi. She'll be a year on 2/15.

my best deduction would be that since it is does not cross the blood-brain barrier for mama, and if the very few side effects that it may have are not bothering you, i would keep taking it, since there are no known side effects tot eh breastfed child of a mother taking domperidone. (unlike reglan, which i would advise moms to wean off of as soon as they feel their milk supply is adequate, since it has multiple known side effects that are pretty common.).

***disclaimer~ this is not medical advice~ just one mama to another for actual medical advice regarding this, see a doctor that is willing to work well with a lc

Sorry - I am a little late on this.

I took it(Motilium/Domperidone) from when Eli was 6 months until he was 14 months. He is still nursing at 33 months! Tonight he stopped to tell me something and he had milk running down his chin - at 6-7 months I NEVER thought I would see that.

I weaned myself off of it over a 2-3 month period. For 4-5 days I would take 1 less pill a day. Then for the next 4-5 days I would decrease it by another pill. Very slowly you can decrease your dose, watching your supply. If it drops, add that pill back in and try again in another week. I really thought that when I stopped, my supply would drop but it didn't. My boobs have shrunk, and I never feel full, but there is still milk there. I wasn't really willing to decrease my dose much until he was close to a year though.

Yeah, thanks Mandy! I've decided to try and cut out my mid day dose so I'll start with your one pill a week idea.
